Got it from a friend coming from USA, was very impressed as soon as I took it out of the box. This unit is equipped with a stylish brushed black anodized steel case, indicator lights with USB connector's in the front and the back of the unit is complete with an 10/100 Ethernet port, USB port, HDMI port, optical (audio) port and composite ports (audio and video).

The unit contained a complete set of accessories including:

- remote control with batteries

- 1 HDMI cable

- AC adapter

- composite cable

- usb cable

- quick set up guide

- CD that contains the device manual

I immediately hooked the Box Office Unit up to my Samsung 32B530 1080P LCD TV using the HDMI cable, since i do not have any external hard disk or 2.5" hence directly connected the Ethernet cable to my router and powered up the unit. The built in GUI looked pretty good yet easy to use and navigate.

Configuring the settings was seamless and was very user friendly and self explanatory. It took me only a few minutes to get the Box Office connected to my network and immediately identified my PC's media files under the UPnP menu. I was able to view the pictures, music and movies and was amazed how the Box Office played them without any flaw.

So far, I'm super impressed by the Box Office performance, I am now fully convinced that my hard earned cash was not wasted on this product.

I continued to test the Box Office, hence began playing movies from my PC through network and the video playback quality and performance were excellent.

There are several other features available on the Box Office including playback from a USB Drive, an internal 2.5" SATA hard drive or SSD (optional), and access to the "NET" feature on the menu. I haven't been able to figure out how to access through the NET because it kept asking me to enter my NET user ID and password which RTFM doesn't help me either.

overall experience ...............

- High Audio and Video Quality streaming via wired and wireless connection

- Offers several ways to access your media files, physically and virtually

- Very User friendly GUI

- Super easy to configure and set up

- Fully Functional Remote Control

- Stylish Design.

- Comes with an HDMI cable

- Plays most or all media file formats including ISO

The "NET" feature is not yet compatible with Windows 7. Can't bypass the NET login name and password , I had put a post on Patriot's forum and hope to get an answer from the members or from the technical support reps soon.

i shortlisted this after reading online reviews so i cannot say much about others because this my first media player.

This is what I have read about it -

In terms of file types supported and connectivity options, PBO is one of the best products.

Cons - Not very friendly UI (comparatively speaking)

Patriots firmware update almost stopped at one point of time. But things are looking good as they might have hired new developers recently. There is a new beta firmware which improves quite a few things including UI. They are making progress towards more frequent firmware releases.

Price is real good - it sells for $90-100 and their $35 MIR has been running for couple of months. Regardless of the MIR, its a very good deal.

PS: It does seem to have a torrent client. But needs to be managed through some installed software. Maybe malhotraraul can shed more light on this.

Will be getting mine early next month :)

it is more then 24 hours now & i am very much satisfied with its performance, yes i missed that discount but do not want to be greedy, so i'd better ignore that.

right now i do not have the external hdd & waiting for my 2.5" & only after that i can put some review about the torrent client.

i usually download those 350mb movies for my nexus & once major thing i've noticed that if i am playing it through patriot on my 32inch samsung 32b530, the quality is much more improved, i also tried running it through PC directly & can notice the difference.

finally, i am not at all worried about its cons, if any ?

where are you getting this from. i too am interested in this if it works out for under 7.5k with the wifi dongle.

I was thinking about getting this some months back but couldnt find it so had decided to go for the ac ryan pohdmini which is great but costs around 9.1k with the wifi N dongle. ( it plays 720p hd properly when streaming wireless)

If this works out cheaper by 1500-2000 with the dongle i would very much be interested as i need another hd player.

u finally got hold of this one huh!....hehe.

nice review....and the price u got it for is amazing.
yea, thanks to you, after things didn't work out with that seller, i called up my friend in USA & requested him to bring one.

@nizarp - Its available in Newegg and Amazon

@stormblast - If you know anyone in US, get it through them. Regarding N dongle, you can get a realtek (make sure of this as PBO doesnt work with many other dongles) based one for ~10USD if you look around for deals. I would not bank on wifi dongle for streaming HD content though.

i am already using the acryan wifi N dongle on the pohd mini. it streams 720p hd wirelessly without any problems.

anyways i guess i will stick to buying another pohd as i dont know if the pbo is available locally.

Its been more than a month since I got mine. Here are few pointers I want to mention.

on the +ve end -

1. I have not encountered any file that has not played on this.

2. The UI is much better than I had thought. Still basic.

3. It has a basic torrent client with web interface and it does the job well. But you will need to install a 2.5" drive for this to work.

4. There was lot of talk about noisy fan in PBO. Atleast till now, I just cannot hear it. Its less than 18" from my chair and I dont hear anything.

And -ves

1. I am facing problems with subtitles. They just wont show up and the subtitles key does not show anything other than 'off'

I still have to figure out what exactly is the issue. But havent had time for this.

If I play dvd iso and set subtitles through the dvd menu system, it works fine. But just cannot make it to show subs in mkv files.

2. Transferring files through USB is PITA. It gets disconnected frequently. Network transfer is slow but stable.

Have read the transferring from a attached USB drive into HDD is very fast and stable. I have not tried this.
