PC for accouting purposes - max 25K

# Q: What is your budget?

25K (everything including original W7HB) - can stretch IF really required

# Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)

NONE

# Q: Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)

N/A

# Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.

Need everything. Fine with C2D as well. i3 is not mandatory. Require atleast 2GB RAM. DDR3 preferred.

Folks who need this are PARTICULAR about INTEL. They are novices with computers, so wouldn't want any 'unknown' brands. Brands with good customer support in case of issues are required.

# Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component

Final configuration

# Q: Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)

Ritchie Street, Chennai

# Q: Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market

No

# Q: What is your intended use for this PC/hardware

This is going to be used by a group of non-computer savvy people, for accouting purposes in their (non-computer) hardware shop. Excel and the like is what they will be relying on.

# Q: If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?

No games.

# Q: What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage

Just need a good 18" monitor (HD not required). This size is minimum.

# Q: Are you looking to overclock?

No

# Q: Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?

Windows 7 Home Basic - ORIGINAL

Dont we all want everything ?

Even the cheapest 18.5" Monitors will set you back by ~ 6.2-6.4k

Windows 7 Home Basic is 4.45k

2 GB DDR3 Ram will cost you 2.8k

That leaves only 6.4k for the rest of the system . Not possible .

An Atom based setup with 1GB DDR2 is more than sufficient for this kind of usage .

Get a decen entry level PSU as reliablity is important. Also get a UPS like the APC 550VA~1.9k if it doesnt run of the inverter.

@DarkAngel, thanks :)

You have suggested a Dual Core processor. Is this better than a similarly clocked C2D?

Additionally, they aren't very particular about a lot of HD space since they will be using a separate portable HDD for their backups. They would be fine with atmost 250GB internal. Does that give scope to increase any of the other specs, particularly processing?

Why don't you just get the base Dell S241202IN8 - Inspiron 560s Desktop - S241202IN8 | Dell India

Intel® Pentium™ processor E5400

Genuine Windows® 7 Home Basic

2GB DDR3 SDRAM

320GB SATA HDD

Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 Graphics

Dell™ IN1910N Widescreen 18.5” Flat Panel Monitor

16x DVD+/-RW Drive

Your people get a brand they're comfortable with and since they're not computer savvy like you say they won't have to worry about running around to various service centers if something does go wrong.

^ This particular one looks good. Listing mentions 4GB DDR3 actually :)

My question still remains, will they notice considerable performance difference on a Dual Core as opposed to a C2D? I haven't personally noticed any difference, but then I have compared only the lower end procy in each.

Great. I think the Dell one fits the requirement pretty well. Most likely would go for it. Wasn't it Raj who can get some discounts?

Make sure you get 3 years limited H/W warranty for the dell up front. Coz by default they carry only 1 year warranty which IMO is too low.
