Hey ppl,
got a new problem.
Here is my config :-
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
ASUS K8V-MX(VIA K8M800 Chipset)
1gb DDR 400 RAM
40 gb samsung hdd (boot)
80 gb seagate hdd
Geforce 6600 non gt 256 mb
Enterage 400w smps

Lately,my pc is freezing all of a sudden.(i.e hangs..num lock stops,no crtl+alt+del etc.)the timing cant be commented upon. Its very erratic, sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes 25.The So-called engineer claimed that it could either be a RAM or a HDD problem. So yesterday i asked me friend who has a spare PC to get his RAM(the same as mine but its 512mb) and HDD (40gb Maxtor)[Tried them 1 at a time, not both together].All seemed fine in both the cases(managed to run it for around 1-1 1/2 hours in both cases when again calamity struck. It Froze Again!

Not i am completely confused..what could be the possible problem?

Pls Help!!!

but is there any connection between a PSU and PC freezing? I mean it would not boot at all rite? or it will reboot..not freeze ?
correct me if i am wrong..
besides can i remove all doubts from my motherboard ??

It's hard to determine exactly. When did this problem start? What was the last hardware/software change? Here's some things you can do.

1) Download Diskkeeper or Perfect Disk and defrag your HDD. Ensure also that there's enough free disk space.

2) Remove unnecessary software and device drivers installed.

3) Download DriverCleaner and uninstall the 6600GT display drivers. Then install a latest version of the drivers.

4) Is your CPU overclocked? Mosy likely no but if so, run it at stock frequency.

5) Clean out your cabinet and try running the system with the case door open for some time. If you can remove the heatsink over the proccy and clean it out.

6) Try installing the OS on the 80GB HDD if you can and see if the issue persists.

7) Change the slot in which your RAM is installed.

You can try these things over the next few days to observe system stability.

Good guides above.

If you dont overclock then possibility is less that PSU causing this freeze. But it may be PSU not working as expected( maybe not filtering the voltage accurately).

Anything can cuase this. hit and trial is the only way to isolate the problem.

dude i had that motherboard and its totally crappy had to change that motherboard for the K8N-VM(nforce4 chipset)

though the looks and all are same the compatability with drivers and other hardware is awsome totally worth buying the Nforce motherboards

and as far as the VIA chipsets are concerned they tend to give too much of problem with ATI drivers and cards

i think u dont require a PSU more than 500W even a 450W is enough

try using your config on someother motherboard cuz the bios are crappy of K8V-MX
