i am having a really irritating problem with my pc...
The thing is that the pc works fine for a while n then hangs and when i try to restart it i get no display on the monitor however the lights n fans on the cabinet work....sometimes the pc hangs even at the windows startup

However after waiting for a while the pc boots up just fine with no problem...i thought i must be an overheating problem with the hdd or gfx...but when i try to start the pc without the hdd(after the pc hangs) i get no display...

and also once i got weird characters on the screen after i restarted the pc when it hung...and once the the mobo failed to initialise the VIA SATA controller...

I have also the changed the ram slot

So i am wondering is this a gfx issue or a mobo issue??

A64 3000+
Asus K8V
XFX 6600GT
Transcend 512 MB
4 x 160 SATA

Please help!!!

well first see if the cpu is overheating. also check for any bios updates for your motherboard(if at all there are incompatabilities with your gfx card)

and as you have 4 ram sticks, check each one of them individually

i have only 1 ram stick and as of now i have changed the slot n the pc is wotking....

i think its a gfx or a mobo problem....but i am not quite sure abt it

The idle temp of the gfx card is arnd 68-70C

i have an antec 350w smart power...

but even when i tried to start the pc without the hdd's the pc wouldnt start!!

may not be directly connected to your problem - but check if the front panel connectors are connected properly. i once interchanged the power and reset switches, and the pc kept restarting randomly, without any reason. only when i took my pc apart, did i find out the problem. after fixing that , all was well.

@checksum : i removed n fixed the front panel connectors on the mobo.....the pc is working as of now....hope nothing unsual happens
