CPU/Mobo PC parts for dad help???

Disciple
hello, am looking for a bit of quick help here :)
i'm buying my dad a new computer and here is what i have so far...

this is NOT a super high end machine and he'll never play crysis let alone know what that even is :) but he does like to mess around with the adobe master collection (video and images).

ONE THING HE IS REALLY ANAL ABOUT IS THAT THE COMPUTER IS QUIET! seriously, an extra 50 or 100 bucks to get it really quiet is money well spent in his mind.
HARD DRIVE
western digital caviar 500 gig $80 - 3 year warranty
OR
seagate barracuda 500 gig $80 - 5 year warranty
PROCESSOR
socket LGA775

Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 Socket LGA775, 2.66 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB, 6MB L2 Cache, 45nm (Retail Box) (BX80570E8200) $200 - 3 year warranty
VIDEO
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT?? 500mb, PCI-express
which 8800 card (GT, GTS or ULTRA) came out AFTER the others and turned out to be a better deal than the previous 8800's? i used to know but forgot :(
MOTHERBOARD

which motherboard would be good and by which manufacturer?
RAM

i guess this depends on the motherboard but a good matched pair of 2gig ram would be my guess.
POWER SUPPLY
ATX something right??
MONITOR
will get a 22" wide one, any good recommendations?
CASE
ATX case and nothing special, will check with what they have in the store.

any help in one or all area's is much appreciated, thanks!!!

Are u getting the stuff from the US??? I mean all the prices quoted are in USD...

If thats so, things're easier to quote from Newegg; :)

You've specified quiet so I'll focus on that for the moment.

All stock heatsinks, bar none, are noisy.

The only way to quiet them is speed control or let them sit on a shelf, while you use aftermarket cooling.

The most popular recommendation on this board is the Ultra-Extreme. For lower power usage, the Ultima90i will be as safe a bet (and equally out of stock at the Egg), and there are some nice Zerotherm coolers that are quite quiet :D The CM 600 is a new entrant, and does fine in passive mode, with temps about 10 degrees more than the stock cooler.

The Barracuda disks aren't particularly quiet. WDs and Hitachis are very quiet, IMO the Hitachi Deskstar drives are the most silent I've (n)ever heard, and they perform decently too.

The next source of noise is the power supply. The Corsair VX and HX have a reputation of being near silent, so those may figure high on your list.

Lastly the optical drives make a racket when spun at high speeds. Not much you can do except use a third party tool to keep the rotation speed down. You may lose a bit of transfer speed, but it will be quiet I guarantee you.

The rest of the noise is mechanical in nature - caused by transfer of vibration and noise to the mechanical parts of the case - panels, rivets and joints. The P180 is a very well-designed case with some focus on noise reduction. The NZXT Hush has excellent deadened panels, but the mounting systems for drives and disks is quite poor. It may be significantly cheaper than the Antec, and comes with its fans prefitted, so may not be a bad bet for a midtower.

Finally, the amount of heat you generate will determine how much airflow you need (and how much noise the fans will generate). For low-horsepower video a 9600GT should be enough, couple that with a small 45nm processor like an E7200 and a decent P35 motherboard and you'd be good to go.

Agree with Sangram, very good points.

Mobo - DFI LanParty DK P35-T2RS 130$

Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 132$

GPU - ECS 9600GT 512MB GDDR3 w/ Accelero 175$

RAM - Geil 2X1GB DDR2 800MHz 50$

HDD - Western Digital 640GB 110$

SMPS - Corsair VX450 80$

LCD - L.G. L226WTY-BF Black 22" 320$

CPU cooling if needed - Thermalright Ultima 90i + Scythe Kama 92MM 55CFM 31db

If U want silent PC, SMPS and GPU r most critical components to choose, U can get ECS with Accellero, will perform good in passive mode too.

those parts look good although my dad does not need the lastest GPU or other parts, just to save on cash a little bit :)
having said that, i'm thankful for the recommendations and will check them out :hap2:

Didn't go through your config, but here's a suggestion if quite is a concern:

Good sturdy ATX case preferably one made of steel with option to install 2X120mm exhaust fans.
PSU: Corsair VX450
Mobo: GB P35-DS3L
Processor: e7200
Cooler: Scythe Ninja in passive mode
RAM: 2X2GB any
Video card: Any HD 3870
Video card cooler: Accelero S2 Rev2 Passive
Optical drive: Any
HDD: WD6400AAKS
Case fans: 2X Noctua NFP12 fans exhausting air out of the case.

Should be quite and give you reasonable performance.
