Here's the thing, I inquired about certain pc hardware from a dealer in my city, a week back. Yesterday, I contacted the bloke again to confirm the prices once again before I sealed the deal and he quoted numbers 5-6% more than the previous ones. He told me it was because of the rising dollar.

Is there any truth to this shit?

This is normal for electronic goods, the prices keep on fluctuating but better to double check with some other retailer before buying.

When dollar was in range of 45-46 Rs, a product with price of 3000 Rs has gone up by 10-15 % to 3300-3500 due wild and absurd fluctuations of Dollar to 49-50 Rs range.

I had 3 HDD's @ 2700/HDD in start of Sep and another one last week costed me flat 3000 Rs..when i asked the seller he said Sir $ is up and up ...price will be up and up....that was straight 15 % rise.

To make matter worse shopkeepers are keeping all the highest selling products off the market just to cash in on sky rocketing Dollar movement.

Living under a rock eh! Due to rupee depreciation against USD even mobile companies like Micormax has increase prices by ~6% or so and Samsung, LG has increased their WM prices by ~3% and many other electronic companies too have increased prices.

So obviously if rupee depreciates parts would become costlier. (That is the case here)
