PC rig for cousin: for Dragons Age, TF2 on 32 LCD tv

hi,
I need advice for a PC rig for a cousin. Its ONLY purpose is to play a couple of games from Steam and watch movies. No need for OC, no 6GBPS Sata, no USB3, etc. needed

He already has a 32 in Philips LCD tv with HDMI input, so it is preferable if the rig accounts for a card that can connect to this and play games.

Requirements:
  • Budget 15K strongly preferable. 20K max
  • No LCD, no optical drive (planning to install Win7 thru USB)
  • Should connect to Philips 32 Full HD LCD Tv through HDMI.
  • Important: currently will use TV for sound as well. So no external speakers
  • Will only keep upgrading video card (as needed). Dont think CPU will get upgraded.
  • Wireless mouse/keyboard.
  • Dont need an expensive case (the smaller the better) - will even be happy with Zebronics Bijli . I might be laying it horizontally.
  • Less heat.

Games: Dragons Age, TF2, Borderlands, Arkham Asylum, L4D2, Amnesia

How will you install games direct download from STEAM or what, anyways

CPU look at the AMD Phenom IIx4 955 ~ 6.5K

Motherboard ~ any compatible motherboard in 5K range

RAM 4 GB G.Skill Ripjaws ~ http://www.smcinternational.in/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=41&Itemid=79

Graphics Card AMD HD 5750/5770 ~ 6.5K/8K OR Nvidia GTS 450 ~ 7K

PSU Corsair CX 400W ~ 2.7K OR Gigabyte Superb 460W ~ 2.2K http://smcinternational.in/index.php?page=shop.product_details&category_id=14&flypage=flypage_images.tpl&product_id=518&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=81

CABINET NZXT Gamma ~ 2.5K ( including some fans you need to buy )

It is highly improbable to suggest any other RIG, though I honestly feel you should expand your budget, nevertheless wait for other members to chip in their suggests :) + if you want specific heat solutions look around at ~

Cooler Master Hyper TX 3 ~ 1.5K

Cooler Master SickleFlow 120mm fan ~ 450/- per piece

Cooler Master Standard fan ~ 500/- for kit of four

hope this helps

AthlonII X3 440 - 3.3k
Asus M4A78LT-M LE - 2.7k
Kingston/ Corsair 2GB DDR3 1333MHz - 1.15k
500GB Seagate 7200.12 - 1.75k

FSP SAGAII 400w/ Gigabyte Superb 460 - 2k
Logitech MK250 : Cordless KB+M - 1.2k

Total: ~ 18k-20k

@Alpha17 - yes. 99.9% purchases will be done through Steam. I will be connecting the CPU to my router using a ethernet cable.

This is what I have been thinking:

Athlon X2 245 - 2.65K

Asus M4A78LT-M LE - 2.7k

ATI 4850 512mb - 4.8K (http://www.mediahome.in/index.php?p...ategory_id=48&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=80)

<supports HDMI using the bundled adapter : AMD Game Forums - HD 4850 dvi to hdmi has picture but no audio >

4 GB G.Skill or Corsair - 3K

Gigabyte Superb 460W - 2.2K

Seagate 7200.12 1TB - 2.8K

Logitech MK250 : Cordless KB+M - 1.2k

Total: 19.35K

Not sure whether mediahome does have the HD4850 in stock for that price. If so den a decent choice. Also remember that Sapphire has 2 yrs parts and labor warranty. And then 1 year parts only warranty.

The Kingston 4GB DDR3 single stick costs just 2.25k/ 2*2GB Corsair Value RAM DDRIII - 2.3k and the amount save could be invested in AthlonII X3 440-3.3k(Unlocks to Quad) and/or Corsair CX400-2.65k.(30A in single 12V rail)

Yes thats the best sub 5k card at the moment. If you are open to 2nd hand h/w then u can get an yr old MSI HD5750 for 5k.
If the HD5670 then get the HIS IceQ version. Its super silent and cool. Sells for 5k in dealers section with 3 yrs parts+labor warranty :)

the 5670 will be insufficient for his needs. he requires a minimum 5750.

BTW darkangel's original rig is the best. dont buy the amd x2 245. it will bottleneck ur future upgrades..

go for 5750 with cx400 or fsp 500w for 2.1k

don't downgrade processors. they cannot be upgraded regularly..

if u wait till jan last week prices for 5750 will drop another 500rs.so u will get it for 6k

@mrcool63 - I'm not so sure about the insufficient part.

If you take a look at my game list, they are more or less covered here (Sapphire Radeon HD5570 1GB DDR3 Single & Crossfire Review) And by what I see even 5570 will play it at >30 FPS on 1920X1080 . So it should be playable on the LCD tv.

This is not a 5 hrs/day kind of gaming .. more like 5hrs/week kind of gaming (for both me and my cousin). Later, money permitting, I will upgrade (maybe just in time for Rage !).

Right now, I want the minimum setup that will just sufficiently play Steam games while guzzling beer on the full HD TV.

DarkAngel has actually hit the nail close in fitting what I need (thanks!!!!!). I wouldnt have minded spending lesser money though ;) Maybe January will bring a further drop in prices. I absolutely dont mind building a whole PC out of used parts.

what do you think ?

dude 30fps is just playable. buy a 5750 and u'll be better off. u can also try the new battlefield...

if u are using used parts then u can get a more cracking system...:D
