PC Peripherals PC starts... but absolutely no display.

I saw a couple of similar posts in this section and saw them if they could help, but my problem is a bit different.

Here's the config, its a HCL system, 4 years old almost :

CPU - Intel Pentium D 2.8 GHz wt ASUS HSF
Mobo - ECS P4M800 PRO-M
RAM - Samsung 512 MB DDR1
PSU - OEM 300W PSU (Brand Loadtech something, dont rem exactly)
HDD - Seagate 80GB IDE 7200.9

When starting the cpu, the heatsink fan would turn on and off alternatively ( a cycle of say 5 sec). I cleaned everything up, put a fresh layer of thermal paste, and now the fan is spinning at a constant rate. But there is no display.
All i get is the Orange idle light. I tried my monitor, that aint working either. The hdd is ok too, since i tried booting using my hdd, same result. I thoroughly cleaned the PSU as well. All the cables are in the right place.

The cpu is running for as long as i want it to run, but still get no display . Drop in your valuable suggestions please .

There's nothing on the screen, so i am not able to try anything. Even the BIOS doesnt load, is there anyway to get it to safe mode in a different manner ? Will that help ??

check for weak cable connections and try booting from some other psu

reset the bios by changing pins on motherboard n try booting again

Big chance that the mobo is ailing. If possible, try and get your hands on some old video card and see if adding that makes a difference. Maybe only the onboard GPU has conked off.

I m havin same problem n have been asking everyone what went wrong. Its same with me . When i switch on the power it starts with noise dvd blinks continuously n nothing appears on the screen plus monitor is dead only orange light comes up. Please if you find solution post it back pl.

Guys who are not getting system starts. Remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes with the power cable removed from the supply socket. Try to boot it up. Either the motherboard has died, or the PSU, or faulty RAM. Sorry to say too generic a reply, but that is all what can be suggested. You can try those components on another system, or get same components from a secondary system, to systematically isolate the issue.

The cable connections are spot on, removed them and put them back again. The PSU is fine too, but will try another one on it anyway just to confirm.
Tried changing the pins as you said too, but to no avail.

The Mobo only has an AGP slot, and am afraid i dont have any AGP cards, neither does anyone i know has one to test it out. Searching anyways.:(

Sure man, i'll let you know for sure. I know how irritating this glitch is.

I did that too brother. And as you said, we'll only know when we isolate the issue.
Will post after trying some more things out. For all your replies, thanks guys.:)

me too getting the similar problem.........

In my case, the problem was with RAM, clean ur ram pins & the DIMM slots.
Insert ur RAM in the other empty slot & boot ur PC.

If u start ur PC & getting orange light (most probably with LCD's) & green blinking light(may with CRT's) & u r seeing "no signal" then most probably ur video card or RAMS gone bad....rare case the connecting cable has some problem...

Allright, i checked the system using another working RAM from a friend, a 128 MB DDR. Still the problem persists, there is no beep while starting either; the screen is still blank.

I am assuming the PSU's fine, cause HSF and two other cooling fans are running perfectly fine, with no funny behavior by the PSU.

i think that the ECS board is partially dead, lga775 ddr1 new boards are available on the market, try yto get one or upgrade to new technology !

firstly try using your monitor on someone elses machine or use another WORKING monitor with your machine.

if its the former and ur monitor works then the problem is with your machine and if not there could be a problem with the monitor.

Similarly if some other monitor works with your machine then repair your monitor and if it doesnt then there is definitely something wrong with machine.

Either the onboard gfx must have gone bad or the cpu. Just check if all cpu pins are intact, you might have damaged them while changing the thermal paste or ur ram slots might have gone bad.

Just try to isolate the root cause by checking every component.

good luck.

Tried switching my hdds back and fro the other day and had the same issue each time.
Every time this happened ilust removed the power cord and held down the power button for a min. Things worked fine after that. Know it sounds weird but there is no harm in trying

Found enough time to isolate each of the suspects.... and as expected the Motherboard is the culprit. Rest of the components are working perfectly fine.
The processor is good and may be the RAM can be upgraded, please suggest me a suitable motherboard now. You can see the config in the OP. It's a friend's PC and he is intent on using it a bit longer.
Open to used stuff as well.

Thanks everyone for your inputs :hap2:

Bumping this thread as i did not want to create a new thread for this query.

Will this CPU (Intel Pentium D 2.8) work with a G41 board coupled with DDR2 RAM?

A couple of shops friend visited said that particular CPU and G41s are not compatible and instead offered him a new 945 board for 2.2K.

^^ Thanks for that. It does show this proccy among its supported CPUs. But Google was inconclusive on this. I was certain it would work while friend is a bit skeptical to go ahead and buy it. I wonder why the shops turned him away on that :S.
