I have to transport a PC from Chennai to Pune and I was wondering about the best way to do this. Should I take it with me on my flight? I am worried about the CPU being damaged since check-in baggage is handled roughly. And I am not sure I will be allowed to take the CPU as cabin baggage. Any advice would be much appreciated.

As far as i know they will try to no wat all thins r present in the Cabinent for no reason,it is better if u can take it along with urself in train.........

Or another way is u leave the cabinet,,,,take the procy MB Ram sticks HD and all thins in a bag surrounded nicely with clothes,,,,,u can buy a new cabinet at ur new place,,,,,,,,thats wat i did wen i transported my PC..tho i was in train

If I was you. I would simply remove the HDD from cabinet and ship the rest via Cargo.

you should take your HDD along with you in flight. its small enough to fit in hand baggage.

The hard drive wont take shocks of a minor fall - take that out of your enclosure. Also remove any tower cooler such as the TRU120E if you've installed one - makes for an excellent cantilever which may break during transport or bend the motherboard severely.

There should be no problems transporting it through the flight - I've dragged a mid-tower with the components assembled from Delhi to Bangalore without a problem. It did not go through the cabin baggage though!

The allowed weight of the check-in luggage is 7kgs so I don't think thats feasible. Remove the hard drives and pack it in your suit case between clothes or hand carry them and check in the rest.
I transported my PC once and checked it in. Only removed the HDD's and left everything as it was and packed it in the original cabinet box and stuffed thermocol sheets around the sides and asked them to put fragile stickers on it.
Of course that didn't stop the baggage (man)handlers from throwing it all the across from the front to the rear of the baggage lorry while unloading it from the plane. I nearly had a heart seizure then.
When I got back home I saw the heatsink had come off its mounts and fallen down. Anyway remounted the heatsink and plugged it in and thankfully it fired up fine.

Remove HDDs, heavy cooler (if any), You can also remove gfx card and Rams if more worried, rest send it via any courier company. LoL I transported my CPU during each summer vacations, when I was in college. (we used to have approx 100 days summer vacations, and I couldn't leave with my PC for that long), but in my case I bought a small cabinet(less height, more width) and 15" lcd. I used to put both of them in a big suitcase. rest of the things in a separate bag including the LCD stand.
