PC Upgrade within 30K

Hi

Please help me with my PC upgrade (finally!) under 30K. My PC usage would mainly be for the following tasks:

- mainly for surfing internet and using applications such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc

- playing games (RPG, strategy, racing, etc)

- watching movies (mainly HD) and listening to music

- downloading

What should I buy?

Questions

  • Q: What is your budget?
    • <= 30K
  • Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
    • CPU - Intel P4 HT 3.0 GHz
    • Motherboard - Intel 915G Chipset
    • GPU - Don't have an additional one (think there's an NVidia one that came with the PC)
    • RAM - 512 MB
    • Monitor - Samsung 17"
    • HDD - 120GB (had there been no external drives, I would have struggled
      <
      )

    • Samsung CD RW
    • Keyboard & Mouse - Microsoft

  • Q: Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
    • Monitor - Samsung 17"
    • Keyboard & Mouse - Microsoft

  • Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
    • CPU - Confused between AMD and Intel. My local vendor suggested AMD FX8120 (8 core) instead of Intel i5 or i7 (4 core)
    • Motherboard - My vendor suggested 880 Gigabyte mobo to go with the AMD processor
    • GPU - GT210 1GB / GT520 1GB (Again a suggestion from my vendor)
    • RAM - 4GB DDR-3 (not sure of the company, which one's good?)
    • HDD - 1TB SATA (again, which company?)
    • DVD RW - ?
    • Cabinet - ?
    • I'm also contemplating on replacing my monitor with an LED (BenQ 18.5" / Acer 22" - are the suggestions I've received)
  • Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
    • No, I won't be upgrading this configuration for quite some time (at least 3-4 Years). Is there anything else I'm missing?

  • Q: Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
    • Mumbai (Navi Mumbai to be specific)

  • Q: Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market
    • No
  • Q: What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
    • Gaming
    • Browsing
    • Desktop Processing
    • Download rig
    • Watching HD movies
  • Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
    • No dislike, but I've heard that AMD FX8120 has overheating issues - is that correct?

  • Q: If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?
    • Strategy - Civilization 4
    • Racing - Grid at medium to high settings

  • Q: What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage
    • Gaming - 1280x728
    • Desktop - 1440x900

  • Q: Are you looking to overclock?
    • No

  • Q: Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
    • Windows 7 64 bit (mostly)

Thanks in advance for your help

Intel i5 2400~10500/- OR i5 2320-9500/-

Intel DH67BL-B3~5400/-

Corsair Xms3 2X2GB-1400/- OR Gskill ripjaws 2X2GB-1500/-

Segate 500GB HDD-4000/-

Sapphire HD6670-5200/-

Corsair CX430V2-2100/-

Nzxt Gamma ~2100/-

Combo Logitech K200-700/-

This rig will perform better than AMD A8 and will consume less power.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jakob.

I did some more research on stuff. I've mentioned another configuration below. Could you please take a look and suggest if it's OK and the components are compatible with each other?

Intel i5 2500K Processor

Intel DZ68DB Motherboard

G-Skill Ripjaws 8GB 1600MHz

Seagate Baracuda 1TB SATA 3 6Gb/s

Sapphire Radeon HD6670 1GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express

Corsair VX450W SMPS

Nzxt Gamma Cabinet

Can you also suggest a good DVD - RW (may be dual, not sure though) for the rig?

Your help is highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

Sir first of all the psu you mentioned isb't available these days and the rig you've mentioned is getting to 40k which is way above your budget. The motherboard you've mentioned isn't really vastly used, the rig you've mentioned is overclockable but you've clearly stated that you don't want to overclock so i would suggest you to get what i've suggested.

Hey I finally got my rig, made few changes to the configuration ... but I'm happy with what I've got.

Intel i52500

Intel DH67BL

GSkill Ripjaws 8GB

Seagate 1TB

Sapphire Radeon HD6670 2GB

Nzxt Guardian

Corsair CX500W

Thanks for all the suggestions.
