Mods, Shift the Thread.

As for the help part.

If its for gaming, do not go for the Pentium D.

Plus, Pentium D's arent available in India yet.

I Have a Pentium D and in Gaming it matches upto a AMD 3200+.

Which is pretty sad for a proccessor which released 2 years after the 3200 :|.

Anyways, If you do want Dual Core, buy an AMD 64 X2 3800+.

More the RAM, the better. 1 GB is a must. 2 GB is even better. Above that is an overkill.

Motherboard, go for the DFI LanParty Ultra or Ultra-D. Its Come to Mumbai yesterday (18th October). Antec Suppliers are supposed to be importing it.

17" LG Flatron will do.

Sony DVD-RW

HDD : 160 GB Seagate Baracuda or Western Digital's will do.

Antec Super Lanboy. If you dont mind spending 5k on a Cabby.

A PSU around 450 - 500 - 550 W will cost you 1500 for a Powersafe.

3500 for Antec.

Also, please post your budget!

That's a sarcastic way of expressing your feelings....:|

Since I don't wanna spam, I'll make use of the post as well :ohyeah:

You should get :
AMD Athlon64 3500+
DFI Lanparty nForce4 Ultra
XFX 6600GT (If you want to game)
1GB (or 2) Twinmos PC3200
160GB Seagate SATA
Antec Solution Series Cabinet
Antec Smart Power 2.0 400W SMPS
17" Viewsonic Monitor

That should be it, prices will depend on your location...

^^ Still dont understand why everyone keeps recommending a DFI for all the newbies ! Even Darky would testify that the Asus is more stable for the regular user, the DFI would be asking for unwarranted trouble - especially if you have no idea about your hardware.

Give them something they can use, his ID is not Macci, and he definately did not ask for an OC'ing rig :P

Yeah! I agree... i think the Asus A8N-E is the best choice as of now...or may b a NEO4 ....

I totally agree .

Would not recommend MSI RS 480 for a gaming rig at all... MSI Neo4 Platinum is a good board though and So is ASUS A8N E... And if you are not on budget go for a SLI mobo... It can come in handy anytime in the future...

As for people who think why not DFI well DFI has so many friggin settings that may be evem make a elite confused.... Was having the same chat with funky two days back... DFI is not for starters for sure...

An ideal gaming config would be:

AMD Athlon64 3000+ Venice

ASUS A8N E/MSI Neo4 Platinum (nForce4 Ultra chipset)

512x2 Twinmos/Transcend DDR 400 Sticks

Gainward 6600GT

160GB Seagate SATA

Benq 1640

17" Viewsonic/17" Samsung 793MB

Generic cabby(If on better budget pick up a Super Lanboy)

Powersafe 24 pin 450 Watt PSU

Logitech Optical Combo

Also if not looking for a gaming config then remove the GFX card and put the MSI RS 480 instead of ASUS board... At no point i will suggest you to go in for Intel... Partly because i am Anti-Intel and partly because AMD gives VFM products...

P.S. Just noticed in your original post... The stuff which you should keep from your original config... Sound Card, HDD, Optical Drives or maybe just the DVD ROM...

MSI boards are very hard to find, and doubly so for Dual core proccies. In any case if you do find any information, kindly post the same.

wolff you got bad prices man... I just Got I gig for Rs 4300 TwinMos... 512x2 sticks... Dealer SMC Delhi... This was bought on Monday...
