What's your choice for gaming. PC or Consoles?

Here's a list of relative merits & demerites of both:

PC
--
Pros: Powerful, flexible, expandable, customizable, multi functional etc
Cons:Expensive, upgrades etc.

Consoles
--------
Pros: Large number of available games, no upgrades etc.
Cons: Dumb, cant do anything other than gaming.

That's just very wrong :no: , With the playstation 3 you can -

-Browse the web , add a usb keyboard and the experience is just as good as on a pc.

-Download game demo's , themes , game add ons , HD movie trailers and much more.

-There's folding@home to crunch numbers and help in medical research.

-Watch HD blu-ray movies with dts audio.

-View photos from an external drive or from the internal 80/60/40/20 gb storage.

- Use it to stream video/audio from a nearby pc/laptop over wifi.

- Frequent Firmware upgrades

Think again...the next gen consoles have arrived . This thread IMO serves no purpose :|

@ vinaycm - I suggest you go hug your PC and stop creating threads like these repeatedly :no:

MODS this thread should be closed as it will only lead to unnecessary flamebaiting.

Have anyone heard of a console that would be able to do something as basic as wordprocessing or image editing?? Tht's why i called dumb..

Also you are limited to only the firmware updates released by the company (you can use 3rd party ones, but you'll be voiding ur warranty also).. Any choice of OS available in consoles??

They can browse the web, but would be fully functional as in a PC??

A cheap very old download rig can do that....why you need an upgraded updated PC...

Nope but at least they're flexible enough to be used as the perfect browsing station combined with the HD/BR playback which means u have a complete HT setup without an HTPC;

Well, lot of flaws there as well but isn't the console good in doing that??

Frankly, I've quit the rat race as I mentioned in the other thread; :|

Lol, just cos the console cant do word processing and other applications u cant merely adjudge it as dumb; :no:

And without the 3rd party firmware the PS3 can do a whole lot of stuff which frankly I'm unaware of; [perhaps techhead, burnz n a lot more ppl will pour inputs here ;)]

And u seem to be a PC fan and only support it which ultimately results in a flame-bait;

See, now u're upgrading ur card [which eventually will be rendered useless when Crysis 5 comes out; and u're upgrading to a price that's half of the value of a PS3!!! ;)]

Its a total win-win situation dude;

ummm isnt a console primarily going to be used to play games...or do u generally buy a gadget only if its able to perform multiple functions..? I am not a great fan of convergence of devices...i would rather buy a seperate camera than buy a phone with a crappy integrated camera..so for games like racing and sports, i would prefer a console whereas for FPS PC's rule....

its just tat PC does all the above plus many more....
in much much much better way :)

guys...I have both a PC and the PS3, just bot the PS3, but I personally like playing on the PC...basically PC is for the hardcore gamer and one that can spen on the upgrades every 6 months.

Consoles on the other hand bring in the fun factor gaming, stuff like split screen, 6-axis controllers, Wii nun chuks etc, Plus u dont have to spend on the hardware, but games do come at a cost!

So depends on the indiviual's taste and resources! I dont see the point in comparing the 2, its been done time and again, quite frankly i think it doesnt make sense.

^^ I feel the same thing too.....I still voted for PC though, because I have no problems playing with my 17'' CRT monitor with my 8600GT . and HD videos simply don't appeal to me that much.....only 700 MB xvids for me :P .

NVIDIA boss Roy Taylor believes the value of consoles means no-one will make PC-exclusive games any more.

Speaking exclusively to Eurogamer, he said he wasn't threatened by the machines from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo; instead he sees an "exciting future" of co-existence.

"I think we have to face the facts - the value of consoles is such that no-one is going to make a PC-exclusive game in the future. Why would they? Why would they ignore consoles?" said Taylor.

"That said, PC gaming is changing - and consoles don't threaten PC gaming. They're just different. Adapting to that and understanding that is what I think is really, really important.

It wouldn't really matter which way it went anyway as they'd still be designing the GPU's for both those gaming machines.
