Graphic Cards PCI-e Card for HTPC use

Hi

I had recently procured a AMD Athlon 64 X2 (3600+ AM2) pc from a friend thinking of using it as a HTPC for 3-4 months and later giving it off to my sister. But it came with gigabyte motherboard which doesn't have a TV out.
Hence I'm in hunt of a decent graphics card with tv out option. Gaming not at all a priority. My present TV only has component and composite inputs and no S-video.

So, what would be you suggestion for a good card at 5K price point. Linux support is a must and Vista compatibility would be nice.

I don't mind going for a used stuff, so if anyone of you have such a piece for sale please feel free to point out.

I disagree, ATI cards generally are miles ahead of Nvidia in terms of TV out quality. Nvidia cards generally fair better in games. I would suggest an ATI 1300, 16xx series card.
 
If ur focusing on TV-outs & home theatre concept for ur PC, ATi is a little better choice. Even an X550 2900/- will serve good, a mile better than 6200. or if u can afford around 7-9K, there are some Asus Nvidia cards with HDMI out.

Not looking for a card with HDMI out. My present TV doesn't support it and I don't want to go future proof on a extra premium.

Do the other cards mentioned (7300 gs/gt,7600 gs/gt or x1600) comes with a component out option? Or does it gives an improvement over composite inputs on a regular 21" tv?
If going for a Windows MCE route, is NVIDIA pure video a neccessity?

^^The purevideo decoder works on ATI as well :P. But if you need linux compatibility, i'd suggest you stay miles away from ATI. Their linux drivers suck compared to nv.

initially I was thinking using Mythtv, that was the reason I asked about linux support. But yesterday I happened to tryin out a trial version of Netremote & grider with win xp. I really liked it, so now thinking of going for MCE.
Any idea if purevideo decoder works/needed for BeyondTV application?

purevideo is a Directshow decoder, any application like MCE, Media player classic, zoomplayer etc will use Purevideo as MPEG2 decoder for DVDplayback. bear in mind that when ur viewing Xvid/x264, there is no role playing by purevideo or ATi Avivo. Avivo still may provide some scaling at hardware level...
