My 11th finals are starting next week. I have PCM+Comp Science. Computer science is killing me cause I have(somehow) managed to miss 90% of our hour-a-month classes. So what I want to know is, suppose I take Eco/Phys Ed or something in the 12th (whichever one is the most scoring..)... Does the 5th subject matter at all when its time to apply to college and stuff ? (Will apply to US and Australia) ... The thing is, I do want to do something related to Comp Sci after the 12th too. But i'm just screwed real bad right now.... So ...RELP ! :P

Great. And any idea which of the following's the most scoring subject :

Engineering Drawing

Phys Ed

Economics

Comp Sci

BioTech

Phys Ed and Comp Sci are both great.

I got a 99 in Comp Sci, but it involves more work than Phys Ed.

Of course I also got 99 in Physics and Math, so you should take that into account before jumping.

But definitely Phys Ed is 97 marks for free.

NEVER do Engineering drawing. I don't know what they have in CBSE, but going by engg, there is a large chance for marks to be cut.

No idea about eco and biotech. Keep it simple and stick with Phys Ed.

If you're willing to get into a comp related stream, I suggest phys ed to get your board marks up. Tehn try to score a BCA or similar degree from a reputed college. Don't go for Bsc. since the studies for Bsc are roughly the same but the pay is around half of what a BCA grad from a college of similar stature would receive.

After you BCa you could either go the old' fashioned route, ie - do an MBA or MCA or jsut plonk for a certificate course in Network security or some other stuff.

I'm doing my BCA from a pretty okayish college in blore. After that Ima go do a cert course in net security and then maybe later, I'll do an MBA. Just my viewpoints though. However, with BCA dont expect a paypacket like those of software engineers. If you get out froma really good college the maximum you can probably hope for is around 35k. Average is around 20-25 for decent colleges and falls to around 15ish for dutty dutty colleges.

PS- In my 12th I had PCB+computer science+physical edu :P.

I don't really care about my board marks. My first priority is SAT, then a good GPA .... So I guess i'll go with Phys Ed if the 5th subject doesn't matter. My GPA in the 11th isn't exactly going to be that great, so hopefully the extra marks in Phys Ed will get it up a bit in the 12th half yearlies ... Plus even in Canada and the UK, they take your school and board marks into account ... so if Phys Ed is so easy, then why not ?! ...

It IS easier than Computer Science right ?

@KingKrool, thanks mate. You sure about this right ? I don't need to confirm with the school counselor or anything na ?

dude who says ur board marks dont count when u applying abroad??? in US the varsities give u a conditional admission on the basis of ur predicted marks for the boards...these marks will be predicted by ur teachers...u will be granted full admission only if ur baord marks match or exceed ur predicted marks

Woki. Thanks. But a US college wouldn't prefer a student applying for a computer science major to have had Comp Science in the 11th and 12th na ? :S

hmmm wish i could help u but though i am studying at the same level,i am not in CBSE board so dont know much about it..actually i am also in a similar situation.

i have opted for PCM+comp. sci in MAH-state board. and will appear for 11th final exams after 1.5 mnths. and i have screwed with my 11th studies as i was not serious much but some teachers told me that i dont need to worry as i can study the imp. topics and then continue with 12th..and here though 11th is not over my classes have already started with 12th studies..lolz !

best of luck in whatever u decide...to do.

and if possible give me some info on doin engineering from aboard .means which exams do u need to appear and all after 12th.

i have already decide to appear for MAH-CET ,AIEE,BITSAT ,etc. but want to know how good is graduation from foreign.any advantages ? duuno why but my dad says tht it's better to do engg. from India and then go for an MBA from a reputed institute abroad.

^^ Lol my dad says the same thing.. But iv convinced him for a couple of place abroad. Im doing my 12th too (my preboards goin on actually and have chem tomo:P). Have taken the same combination with the compulsary Environmental Education. I suggest you stay in Computer Stream though it seems buggin. Trust me iv learnt from experience..Like Faheem i took 11th VERY casually n messed up real bad..

Take my advice.. Take the 12th seriously and things wil be MUCH easier for you. Study for SAT for atleast 2-3 months throughly and finish it off asap. Im goind the ISC board which is similar and in some aaspects higher than CBSE and we (computer guys) have the advantage of 50% Practical and 50% theory marks for boards which is REALLY helpful.. Write your IELTS as it is compulsary for Australia and some US univs require an additional Eng test apart from SAT..

Its really not important. Its like bonus points.

I don't really care about my board marks.

Then there's no reason why you should leave Comp Sci if you are looking to get into Comp sci major. Prior knowledge of C++ is going to come in extremely useful.

Is it now ? Then I guess I might continue with it ... Hmm ... I'll have to ask a counselor or something I guess cause KK said it doesn't matter ..
