I have 2 Identical pen drive from last 3-4 years ... Kingston 2 GB bought from same place same time ......
Recently I found one nice tool YUMI your universal multiboot installer ... Nice tool for making Multibootable pendrive....

Just one difference while making bootable ( Any 700 MB Distro ) one pd takes around 5 mins and another takes around 25 mins .... why so ?

any idea ?

I have formatted both with Fat 32 .....

okay i am going to take a guess and reply to bump this to the top.come on guys! we definitely have some engineers on the forum.i have found that generally knowledge about flash memory to be poor in this forum.i hope someone proves me wrong:

-for now i want you to do a simple test-format both drives and transfer a 500-600 mb file to both the drives and measure the speed using teracopy to get real world average write speeds.if there is a difference then i have 2-3 theories,if no difference then i think it might be a software problem-autorun virus or something.

i would encourage fellow users to share their knowledge and make the forums smarter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe this has something to do with disk fragmentation. FAT 32 is vulnerable to that you know. Try formatting them with a linux filesystem like ext3/4. Don't know whether that will work but worth a try.

Assuming the file system is same, one of your PD has very slow write speed.

To confirm use a tool called Diskbench, copy a movie file to one PD, at the end it will show you the time and average write speed of the drive. Repeat with the other PD.

Just a guess - one of the drive has developed some bad sectors which will cause slowing down write operation. To verify, you can try filling up disk (two GB - small files not a big one) and see whether the slower one can take as much as the fast one.

sorry for late replay...

no bad sector on either drive checked using.. HD tech Pro..

its the same partition issue ... YUMI formating issue.....I removed partition with PCLinuxOS then again format both with fat 32... Works great now... same speed ... But i tried same with disk management (win) no luck....

Do not create partitions on usb flash drives for multibooting.yumi will load using syslinux and then use grub if required. In some pc's a pen drive( specially a bootable one ) will be identified as a floppy disk and will be very slow.
