My old Intel P4's CPU cooling fan is malfunctioning and the proccy is heating to the point of 75C-77C. I have decided on buying this CPU cooler for the system:

Thermalright XP-90 Cooling System

I didn't find anything better as this system houses a P4 @2.4Ghz Prescott Socket 478 mPGA on an Intel D865GBF mobo. If anyone knows any better CPU cooler for my 478 socket then let me know.

Now, my questions are:

Can someone confirm if this Thermalright XP-90 CPU cooler will fit on my CPU and mobo?

Also which 92mm fan would be the best option to use with this cooler?

Thanks :)

Has the H/S fan's RPM dropped? FInd it using speedfan utility.

If no
Remove the heatsink, clean the old thermal paste and apply a new one. good H/S paste should cost u 350-450/- eg coolermaster .look for KMD's thread.

I too have intel p4 2.8ghz prescott cpu & intel 865gbf mobo. I am using vantec mach-1 cpu cooler for 3 years as the stock cooler fan was very noisy. Vantec mach-1 is a good cooler but you have run at fan at maximum speed at 3800rpm for prescott cpu. But the fan is not noisy. You can enquire for vantec cooler at apex enterprises or primeabgb at lamington rd mumbai but i doubt it would be available since now socket 478 coolers are hard to find.

I was too looking for thermalright xp-90 to replace vantec mach-1 since 92mm fan can be used on thermalright but no stocks are available. I also looked at scythe cpu coolers at lynx website since scythe coolers fit on all platforms but they also have no stock.

Or else you can look at ebay site. They have coolermaster socket 478 cooler like the intel stock cooler but they have no cooper base. But since your processor is 2.4 ghz i think the coolermaster one will do.

Here is the link for ebayeBay India: Cooler Master Cpu Fan For Socket 478 Cooling Heat sink (item 150372201744 end time 18-Sep-2009 14:18:44 IST)
