Hi friends,

help me to decide the processor either Intel® Pentium® 4 processor 640 3.20 GHz or Intel® Pentium® D processor 820 2.80 GHz , bcoz they r of nearby price.

I have decided to go for ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe Motherboard, also suggest some good alternatives for it at its nearby price.

Buy Intel Pentium D processor 820 2.80 GHz.

ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe Motherboard is fine.

Pentium D is dual core.

So, it will give you better multitasking performance.

I also say go for Pentium D

Guys i got a dealer which is prepared to sell me the x2 4200+ for 15.3k !!!!!

and that too with 3 years warranty and the tax invoice !!!!

Awesome aint it ????

I'm Goin IN

U'll get the Pentium d 830 for around 18k in mumbai (lamington road) so forget abt it. !

Go for the Pentium D 820.

Asus P5LD2 is a rocking motherboard.

Can overclock the Pentium D by like 35% :ohyeah:...

Gold...is it a permanent OC??? with a hyper 48 can I OC the D820?? Is the D830 worth 5K more??? OC around 200-400 MHz without any permanent damage??

If you will be primarily gaming, the Pentium 640 is far more superior than the Pentium D 820 and 830.

In terms of multitasking performance, the Pentium D 830 is only marginally better than the Pentium 640, which tells me the 640 is a lot better than the 820.

As well, I was recently looking for an AMD X2 3800+ and found the single core 3800+ outperformed the X2 in all but one test, including multitasking btw - in terms of gaming performance, the 3800+ was way ahead of the X2 4200 as well :)

I can't comment on content creation or audio/video encoding.

Dont go for the Pentium D 830. Its useless for 5k more.

They both overclock to the same limit.

Yes, your Hyper 48 will cool the Pentium D nicely.

Yes, mine is a permanent OC. :).

Vandal, how much are you getting the Pentium 640 for? One of the vendors I deal with here is getting me the OEM version for 8.9k, while it retails for 9.9k - still deciding if 1k is worth the trouble going OEM.

640?? I got the 660 man, and a long time back...very long when hardly advertised....I paid more than 20K at the time....but transaction from Jabalpur..will ask and tell...

PS cost has come down and 660 is hardly available cause its got a heat issue. Mine runs well though. 1 hyper 48 is on it....

Also for a 660/640 any of the series the mobo is imp....don't go for dfi or even intel etc...POS for intel CPU's...go with an Asus or a MSI and the premium models....I use the 925X and am very happy with this rig...

If u gotta 530 then why do ya u want a 640??? larger L2 looks good on paper but nothing much else...Oh 64 bit and all (not all 5xx series had that) but still???

system is good...just get a 955X/975X board and go with the dual cores :ohyeah: how bout a D840EE? :P

My mobo rocks like hell - need a 64-bit cpu so I picked the 640. It OC's well and doesn't have an overheating problem like the 530 I have.

And eff the EE sh1t lol... they're over-priced for nothing, I'd rather get an over-priced FX-57 instead :-P

After adding the 640, I'll retain this config for a while and go in for a major AMD overhaul this summer (hopefully a dx10 card will be released by then).
