WHAT? still people don't understand or what ??? =(

do you think BSNL will upgrade their UL plan to 2mbps ? are they nuts to even think about it? already the bsnl network is choked ..........

They will and there is no way out - if not 2mbps then at least 512k very soon. Wait and watch! Even if they can not provide the enough QoS, they will have do for marketing reasons and to balance userbase.

They would have to do something about the unlimited plans... both MTNL and BSNL, else the night unlimited users would have the last laugh by paying less and downloading more. 2mbps is a very low bw compared to where the other countries are now, so they would have to upgrade the ul plans to 2mbps sooner than later. Who could have thought they would upgrade the limited plans to 2mbps at the same price a few months back.....its matter of months.

i dont know why people have this mentality thinking 2mbps UL is for dreams only and they will be satisfied with 512k unlimited.

Thats pathetic and mostly because you havent experienced what 2mbps feels like. Those of us who are on 2mbps Night unlimited plans have and honestly now we want more :P

Once you get 2mbps anything lower will never be enough.

All developed countries have speeds in excess of this and still UL. and even many developing counties have those kind of speeds. And BSNL / MTNL have enough BW now. They just got new undersea link which effectively trippled their BW last year.

If people demand there will be someone who will come out with solution. But its sad to see people saying they will be happy with 512k only..

bah.. wrote 1 long reply 1st and when i submitted it just so happened that some update was going on so it dint get sent.. :@

anyway sorry to burst your bubble but we're just being realistic.. just coz other countries have fast connections how the hell does that compel indian ISP's to increase their speed? india has a long long way to go before getting compared to countries like USA and all in lots of areas.. so stop dreamin about 2mbps.. why do you say they HAVE to increase the speeds? HAVE TO? what if they dont? whatcha gonna do? gonna start a morcha for demanding 2mbps? i dont see that happening in the near future.. and about the hasty generalization that nobody has experienced 2mbps so we cant talk.. what has that got to do with this? and for your information, i'm on a 2mbps connection right now.. that too for free.. thank god for unsecured wireless networks and call centers in the next building.. . in INDIA, i will be happy with a stable 512kbps unlimited too.. just coz BSNL and MTNL have excess bandwidth doesnt mean they are in a mood to use it all up.. all ISP's have loads of excess bandwidth.. whos gonna compel them to increase speeds and use it.. you ? stop talking and start doing something

oh btw, your talking as if all of you night unlimited users are getting stable 2mbps.. everyones getting max around 200kB/s (1.6mbps) and that too not stable.. for some its even stopped.. go read the BSNL and MTNL threads..

FYI its 100% stable on HTTP and FTP download, 212-213 KBps all the time. Torrents fluctuate anything between 180-190 depending on no of peers. Its this mentality that exactly what making these broadband players not to launch high speed plans. In mumbai they are expanding area wise, but they are expanding. If a user is not getting full2mbps on every torrent its not the fault of connection but that torrent is slow.

Why the fk i will have to do anything? If those guys on airtel start to move twords BSNL, airtel will have to come up with answer.

what you are doing is stealing bandwidth, i aint. If you had experienced 2mbps you would never say 512k is enough.

Do you know even countried like thailand, malaysia have unlimited 5+ mbps speeds?? these are developing countries just like us.
These telecom players have more than 100% profit margins. They can and will give you more speed if user demands it. Thats how out mobile telecom sector become what it is now.

Cow hump?? well that tells me all about your mentality. You cant even argue in civilised manner.

GO get yourself a life.

Chill Guys....:P :P

Why start a mud fight for an issue no ISP is willing to address... I too believe that its not practical to think that if we will demand 2Mbps UL ISP's will give it to us... If they do then how are they going to milk customers with 2Mbps for 42K capped @ 60gigs... (for corporates as per MTNL's Plan)...

Developed countries had broadband for years & we are demanding it since ages but every ISP was comfortably sitting on it.. As per the "Mobile Boom" I understand it to the brain child of Reliance which ushered a stiff competition by providing handsets for 500 bucks... shelling out connections like crazy & making others to follow the suit to be in business.... :hap5:

So... its still early to start a fight & think that these ISP's are customer friendly & will listen to any of us... :@ You can only see a change if any one ISP start giving connections for 500 bucks UL even for 256 or 512Kbps then we will see most ISP's moving to 2-5 Mbps connections....in near future:hap2:

Our country needs to focus on providing food and shelter for the hundreds of millions. I think the govts priority should be to assist the sick and the homeless rather than to provide 10000mbit download speeds to people who'll jsut use it to download movies/games. What apart from this will you use a 5mbit connection for? I agree the faster the connection the better it is for us but we've got more problems to take care of now than to just provide internet connections.

Be realistic. Mal/Thailand have got LOW populations, their size is small compared to ours, Truth be told Malaysia and Singapore prolly share a single Fiber optic cable between themselves. Just because they have something does'nt entitle you to ask for it.

Its about time we got some decent speeds. Am with funky on this one. ISPs have shitloads of BW and humongous profits. About time the bastards gave us some speed.

^^hmm...stop diverting the topic to star wars..:P , as a currently 128kbps user .... im not much game for this high speed thingy...but if they do upgrade then my speeds will automatically increase..:hap2: so i hope for the best.

We are not asking anything for free people.

Atleast i will pay anything upto 2k for 2mbit UL connection.

Its not about our population or anything else. We still have very low internet penetration %age wise as such and these players does have bandwidth.

As far as milking customers, thats exactly my point. And you know reliance, tata, sify have totally different arrangements with the commercial players. You will be shocked to know how much less these commercial players end up paying compared to amount of BW they get from these big players. And its not standard rate. Lots of negotiations happens. My office just got additional bw at the cost which is unbelievable when its Unlimited 10mbps BW from reliance communications.

So its not that there is not enough bw or profit in this market.

It will get cheaper and faster if people demand it. More demand = cheaper and faster. and even now its getting there, atleast in bigger cities and metros.

What TRAI needs to do is change def. of broadband from 256K to min 512k or 1mbps UL..

The depressing part is, metros contribute to 80% of nation's non agricultural income. Mumbai pays half of that. And even now there is no decent broadband player except MTNL in mumbai. Airtel just started out here in very limited area, TATA too is limited to some areas. So even now in places like outer suburbs there are no decent connections. All thats available is SIFY and PACENET. So MTNL bringing out something like this only helps here as for years when people all over india are enjoying airtel unlimited plans, here we had nothing.

And there is nothing wrong in demanding something, we pay for it, we pay out taxes, we are ready to pay for better service. So its our right to ask for something better.

What TRAI needs to do is change def. of broadband from 256K to min 512k or 1mbps UL..

Yepp thats what I had said in many posts... TRAI should swing its danda & rewrite the guidelines for broadband... making atleast 1Mbps as broadband.....

It was also the TRAI which nailled the an@#$s of these mobile companies & we got one of the cheapest rates in the world.. same could happen for broadband as well... But do remember it didn't happened in a month.... it happened in last 2-3 years so you can imagine when we will see true broadband in India with no capped download limit....

Even if TRAI changes the min. speed of broadband from present 256k to something like 512k or 1M , they are never going to mention UL there.

But then they will stop calling any unlimited connection broadband if its below the min. speed specified as broadband....Then some company will defintely come up with a broadband plan having unlimited download :P :P :P

Exactly.

Nowadays whenever BSNL throttles me down to 512k, it feels so inhibited after having experienced 2mbps.

Infact I would prefer 2mbps night-unlimited to 512k unlimited. I can download just as much during the night hours as the 512k connection will during the entire day, leaving me no bandwidth or time to do anything else.

2mbps unlm during night has only 1 restriction though, you'll mostly be using to line up your torrents/downloads as you snore away, what about those who want to watch some friggin high quality streaming stuff during the day? or listen to online radio sites with mp3 streams of around 128-190kbps?

Heck, we are asking for too less. Nothing less than 1mbps unlm will suffice. Any ISP which can make the move now will get away with the most number of customers.
