Hi ppl,
This is my first review in TE so pls have some mercy
Apologies for not uploading any pics (my cam is on a picnic ) so i have included some pics i found frm a google image search,
Introduction
Philips has entered the portable music player market with intentions in not just selling an mp3 player but i would say providing a complete product (i will
elaborate this in the later part of the review)
The Player (Product)
The packaging is real simple from the outside(no malnourished models ) just the logo and the device in a transparent box with the brand name and other
essential information
The reason why i said that Philips has provided a complete product is because of the following bundled stuff
1)The Player
2)Ear phones (decent 1s not as good as the EP630 but just a couple of notches below that)
3)USB extension cable
4)3 yeah! three rubber covers to protect the USB (i need three cause i am prone to losing the first two )
5)Manual n CD which as the software to upgrade the firmware
In these days of cost cutting v usually dont find manufacturers bundling 3 rubber cover, the USB extension cable n stuff so its a complete product - right ??
Looks n Build Quality
The fit-n-finish is top notch 10/10 for it. Though the body ends up becoming a finger print database but it looks cool minus the finger prints.
There is also a really cool screen saver too
A special mention of the buttons, there are two small circular plastic 1s on the top which u would not usually care but the 5 buttons (2 for volume n 2 for
track change n 1 for play) are finished in metal, it not only looks cool but is easier(n confortable) to use too.
With the Tsonic T610 which most ppl consider the best VFM (till now) mp3 player, its embarassing to show let alone flaunt ,cause it feels as embarassing as
being caught by my mom with a match box in my pocket.
The Creative's are not creative in terms of design at all.The backlight reminds me of my old Nokia 3310.
The ipod shuffle is almost twice as expensive n does not have a Display at all .
In short its the Moto Razr of mp3 players(which is a cool looking phone), its a uber cool looking mp3 player
Features
Plays most of the common music formats though i have not tested anythin other than mp3
FM player
FM recording
Voice recording
Can be used as a pen drive
Sound Quality n battery life
The manual specifies a battery life upto 10hrs after a 4hr charge. though i have to yet verify the claims.
The creative mp3 players need replacable (rechargable) AAA batteries.
The sound quality is decent though the only grudge I have is that when i set the equilizer to ROCK the max volume did not suffice my ears (they are
tuned to my 5.1 Creative T6060 ) my sister on the hand felt them totally acceptabe.
I gueess I need a creative EP-630 soon
The player supports FM, voice recording n FM recording too since i dont listen to FM i haven't included in the review but i am assuming there should
not b any problem in that either.
Transfer Speeds Of the Songs were 500-700KB/sec on Windows Vista Ultimate which is guess is slow, but things could have been worse, my friends T610 gave 100KB/sec though i dont think its a common prob with the T610s.
The Price Rs 2,475 at alpha stores Vile Parle West, Mumbai with a 1 year warrant.
1 GB Video GoGear =Rs3,500
the surprising thing was that Sony Mony was selling me the same stuff for Rs3k with 3 months warranty :S
A small word on the ruggedness(n my negligence)
As the player was getting charged in the back USB (front isnt wrking ) I pulled my cabinet with force loading the player in such a way that the USB port
of the player poked out of the player like a missile from a warship.
I just pressed it in nervously n VOILA !!
No problem at all
