Review

Hullo all,
Well its been 1 day since i got my Philips SHP8500 Headphones in mail, and yes according to my previous experiences with Philips products that i had, This has not led me down one bit. From a Good looking easy opening box (looks at Sony and Sennheiser) to Build quality To Sound performance. I haven't been led down in any sections.

Box/packing - 8/10
Well as you can see in the pics above as well a good looking plain hard box with a plastic frame inside to protect the headphones does the job properly. Well the box will take any one maybe 1 minute to open it and get those cans out. So a solid 8/10 on that.

Build Quality - 9/10
Well these are one really well built headphones, well firstly let me describe how these look and fit. These might look heavy but they are pretty light weight and fit really well above your head. The hard rubber padding on the above makes sure that they do not slip of your head. the cups in these are full size ones which means that your whole ears will be covered properly. These headphones also have foam type padding on the cups. Well many people complaint about these cups as they catch dust easily and are not good for people who snack while listening to music. Well i personally like these foam cups for the simple reason that they are comfortable and not at all heat up much while using for long hours.
Well these headphones aree very sturdy, the outer cups are made of glossy hard plastic with a little hint of chrome/plastic like rounds which add to the looks. The most surprising thing about these headphones is the wire it had. and they are very thick it has around 3m length and around 3 to 4mm thickness its soo thick and durable which might help for long time use coz sloppy cables tend to cause contact problem in long time use. These headphones dont have volume control in the cable and i am soo happy not to have them as they tend to give problems very soon.
These headphones also include a gold plated 3.5mm and 6.5mm jack, well i have no idea why these gold plated jacks are provided because they help like nothing % on the sound quality improvement and just add up on the overall cost. Its not that the cable is of gold which is impossible as they are only made up of OFC. So no point providing good looking shiny jacks as they dont do any good for me.
So a solid 9/10, coz they have nearly everything u might need in a well built headphones.

Sound Quality 8/10

Ok now the main part which is the Sound quality, I must say when i first put them On i was like WOW they punch the pack really hard. the 40mm Neodymium magnets are well built and are turned inside the cups in such a way so that the sound waves hit the ear drums perpendicularly so that each and every wave can be heard properly and to have a better music hearing experience.
The bass is pretty tight and not muffled at all, You will get your bass wherever you should, these cans dont miss out on bass at all the lower frequencies are pretty distinct and you can hear them distinctly without any distortion at higher volume. The mids are normal not too over brightened nor too dull. Well initially the treble was too bright that it was overpowering but after some burnin time they have gotten better and better and they dont tend to distort at higher volume levels at all. These headphones will work really well at Techno Equalizer settings. Bass Boost settings will make them Muddy and base becomes overpowering and you will get an headache definitely (I got too xD).
So these get a very solid 8/10 when comparing with the Sennheiser HD485. Well HD485 cost around 4000rs and these for around less than half the price This is a STEAL.
If you want a great Music/gaming experience Go get these budget cans. You will not be dissapointed. :)

Have you done proper burn-in before reviewing ? else you cannot dictate the real performance. Out of the box, most philips are too bright without much detailing.
I saw you mentioning about burnin it, but it needs around 100~120 hours, or atleast my shp8900 wants.

Well i gave them a proper burn-in time of around 1 and a half day .
And i think that was pretty enough as sound was too bright initially then after a few hours it didnt change much and its been around 4 days that it hasent changed drastically.
So i guess this is a pretty fair review. The reason i am guessing these headphones didnt require much of a burn-in time because they might be the ones which were put up as testing piece for customers.

I have same ones... and I love them. At least, in my personal experience I found them to have much better mid-range compare to the earlier Sony cans that I had (MDR-X300 I guess), not to mention, the bass on these is just how I like it. It's tight and controlled, not too loose or muffled.
