Budget Above 40k Pixel 7 or S22?

I've been contemplating between buying Pixel 7 or Samsung S22. I need an allrounder and not a fan of apple. Which on has a better SoC and are there other options which is better or similar to these?

My preference S22, but only if it is 50-55k like Pixel 7.

If you need best performer, S22 it is. Sadly both have SoCs which run hot, not warm, but hot.

Software wise - My preference is One UI over stock android because of its features or lack thereof in stock, your mileage may vary
Both will get OS updates till android 16, so longevity isn't a concern, Samsung will be few months late compared to Pixel for OS update though.

Camera - Pixel 7 seems to be better, but S22 will be very close. S22 has a telephoto cam as well.

Pixel 7 has a bigger battery but is slightly larger & is much more heavier than S22.

Price difference is the main reason i'm debating between the two. If i spend 10-12k more i'll get s22 which has better performance but is the improvement in performance worth the higher price? :/

If you haven't used a pixel before then you should first try it somewhere. Pixels are awesome as minimalistic phones. They lack a lot of basic customizations that you find standard on 5k android phone. If I had to get a pixel then I would get pro version at least. Non pro has a basic software compared to pro version.

For me, no.

I like compact phones as well. Last year instead of spending 50k+ on S21 which has a hot running CPU, I decided to live with a bigger phone & got S20FE 5G (upgraded from S8). If S21 had a good SoC, I might have actually bought it at 50-55k or so.

Personally, I won't buy Pixel 7 or S22 because of SoC. I want a good phone if I'm spending that much. Currently, SD+ Gen 1 is fine from QC, Dimensity 8000 & 9000 are fine as well thermal wise, but lack good options or are just overpriced. So if something happens to my phone now, I will likely get another S20FE.

Samsung fab ruined android flagships for 2 years IMO. SD+ gen 1 was TSMC, newer SD gen 2 is also TSMC & is good efficiency wise based on initial rumours.

I didn't hear about Pixel 7 pro having any major software differences over Pixel 7, LMK if there's any. Its just better hardware from what I heard.

Sorry I misspoke. I should have said that pixels have basic software compared to other phones. There's no dual ringtones for dual sim. No network meter. Launcher is very basic and lacks customisation. No dual apps. No face unlock (maybe pixel 7 has it). No security. Fingerprint reader that accepts any fingerprint. Lock Screen that can be unlocked by anyone with a simple trick. Shorter update cycle compared to Samsung, Doesn't show SOT. The list of 'can't' is long but that's all I can remember right now.

Then there are things only Pixels 'can' do but mostly those are niche like Live transcribe. And I don't use them.

I know of the shortcomings of stock android, so I will prefer to avoid it for myself. Those niche software additions usually don't make up for the missing features which other major UIs have i.e. Samsung, Xiaomi & BBK UIs.

The lock screen issue has been rampant during the 6a release initially, it shouldn't have occurred for sure.

Anyways, for most users, stock android might be fine. Wanted to buy my mother a Moto phone for under 20k, but my mother needed call recording, so had to choose Samsung.

My 2 cents as a pixel 4a user, battery I have heard is very bad in both phones, s22(one of my colleague has s22+) being lower. If you like the minimal stock ways then pixel is the way to go, always get the features first compared to rest of the world.

Pixel also has solid EOL support as all the device are allow to be unlocked and faster ROM development is present.

This is my observation after coming from one plus 8 (yes I downgraded to pixel 4a), the camera is impeccable. Very clear, very good and real colors. Its the perfect single click shooter compared to the rest of industry. Idk if the camera scene has improved in like 2-3 years in rest of companies, I would say pixel would have the best no frills camera

S22 is on offer at 51k. (including 2k coupon off)

It's easy. Camera is the deciding factor here. If camera is your first priority, Pixel all the way, nothing comes anywhere close. If not, go for S22. Software wise, yes, Samsung does offer features which are quite handy and which are lacking in a Pixel, but more than 80% of their offerings are gimmicky and will never be used. I do not know whether Samsungs still lag though, I personally will never consider heavy skins like OneUI. It all depends on your priorities.

PS: If resale value matters, then S22 will win big time for Pixels have the worst resale value of any phones I've seen.

Don't forget after sales of Pixel.

One UI is not TouchWiz, hence the rebranding. I agree that most features are something which most people won't use, but won't say most are useless gimmicks. Like those gesture stuff on S4 were gimmicks. Stuff like Bixby routines, a good screenshot tool, recording gifs, call recording, SOT info. etc are very handy additions, although not everyone will use them for sure.

From my exp, none of the big companies' UIs lags these days on mid-range phones (say 15k+), be it Samsung or BBK or Xiaomi. So it is your personal preference what you want. For me, top option is One UI. You might like the minimalistic setup of stock though. Saw some bugs on the new oxygen OS of OP, but not like those cheap Nord lags or hangs frequently. Oxygen OS used to be my top choice along with One UI, but alas, its gone.
