I've had the SM PL11s for about 5 months now. I usually use them with my Nokia 5130 for my daily commute. Anyway, for about 10 odd days I didn't use 'em. After this gap, when I plugged 'em in yesterday I felt as if the sound was unbalanced. It was kind of disorienting & I found myself just going through various tracks to understand what was going on rather than enjoying my music.
I've come to the conclusion that the left ear-piece has lost bass. Not completely, but it lacks punch. I listened to Dream Theater's 6'0'clock over & over & got the impression that the sound is mainly coming over from the top right side of my head. The left ear-piece isn't completely dead however, as it does deliver sound otherwise.
So I'm confused as to whether this is purely psychological, or hardware gone bad? Or is it physiological [like a cold?]? I've tried other IEMs which come bundled with phones & found that the sound was balanced.
Can earphones just lose bass like this? What causes this? Does manufacturer warranty cover something like this? Is there a test mp3 download which will help play bass notes on each ear-piece separately & help confirm my suspicion?
Thanks for your time.
