I am planning to buy a new rig, probably next month. I searched through different posts in TE and based on those I have short listed (Spcl. thanks go to SidhuPunjab and 200mph ) the peripherals as:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200

Gigabyte ga ep31 ds3l

Transcend 2x1GB DDR2 800MHz

Seagate 7200.11 500GB ST3500320AS SATAII

ViewSonic 17’’ (donno which model)

Now my basic need would be high performance. I will use it as a hardcore development machine.…..all tools used would be extremely CPU and memory hogging….

Apart from that…. yeah bit movies and games and music…. stop it! ….Probably it’s my ignorance about h/w taking the toll !…..

So now my big question! What GPU will fit my requirements (actually too many of them….:).sry abt that)….Budget around 2K…….

Oops missed the caby!...will pick up a cheppo…

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 - 5.5 k

Gigabyte ga ep31 ds3l - fine

Transcend 2x1GB DDR2 800MHz - get the corsairs

Seagate 7200.11 500GB ST3500320AS SATAII

ViewSonic 17’’ (donno which model) - 7200 - 7500bucks

2k hmm look in the market section

As I said gaming is not the priority......Can't I manage a cheap new GPU damaging 2K?......

Thanx guys.

So my final config comes as:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7200
Gigabyte ga ep31 ds3l
Palit 8400gs Sonic
corsairs 1x2GB DDR2 800MHz (will buy another stick later...not sure but this mobo has got some constraints using more than 2 sticks)

Seagate 7200.11 500GB ST3500320AS SATAII
ViewSonic 17’’

Zebronics Bijli with bundled smps
Altec Lansing VS4121 (seems to be value for money! )

Voila!....thats it.

Get a Creative Inspire 2.1 right now and invest in a good PSU you may have a low poer config but a good PSU can save you from alot of hassles.

Ynot a quad 6600 for intensive apps ..??

i woud suggest

e7300
gigabyte Ep31 ds3l
2gb transend rams wit powerchip BP
Check in market for graphic cards
Seagate 7200.11 500GB ST3500320AS SATAII
ViewSonic 17’’
Zebronics Bijli with bundled smps
Altec Lansing VS4121 (seems to be value for money! )

Creative 2.1....sorry! I already have one....and I just hate it...:frusty: ....

I wud go for VS4121.....

Good PSUs are quite expensive......Ok i can stretch out 1k more on PSU....but I don't think that will help me to get a good one:( .....

Somebody said E5200 is in market :hap2: !.....wow!....

Then I would settle for that instead of E7200 :ohyeah: ........

Money saved goes into my smps = CM460 :cool2:

Is that ok H20?

Okies.....no problemo...but if you use cpu intensive tools wouldn't the extra cache help ?

OR maybe an extra core by going for a tri core phenom if your apps can utilise the 3 cores.

Now dont get me confused  ....

I have already spent sleepless nights to decide upon amd/intel........

Now not again!

GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview - GA-EP31-DS3L (rev. 1.0)

it says:
Because of chipset limitations, do not populate both DIMM sockets of the same channel (e.g. DDR and DDR2), or populate 4 DIMM sockets with double-sided memory modules to prevent system's failure to start or incorrect detection of memory modules. Please refer to the user manual for the memory configurations table.

Its greek for me :annoyed: ...Somebody xplain!
