why not buy a Hitachi P42A01A 1024x1080 42inch for 70k over a Panasonic TH-42PV80H 1024x768 42inch for 75k ?

better yet buy a Samsung PS50A550S1 1920x1080 50inch for 115k

Pioneer PDP-5080HD is 1365 x 768 :S

Pioneer PDP-5020HD & Pioneer PDP-5010HD are 1920x1080
The Panny is ~61k now, not 65k. It's as good as the Kuro 4280XD. Basically, Panasonic's latest plasmas are 99% as good as the last-gen Pio plasmas.Beats the Hitachi. As for the Samsung, no competition at all :p

As for the Full HD Pio plasmas, there is the 5090HD, 3000$ at Amazon. Bugger is charging 4 lakhs for it here :S

Zhops - Yea, in a friend's PV80. Very good results.. not good for text, but movies are excellent.

ohh sucks!! I can't window shop for a 50", it won't fit in my room :( Anyway, how much is the 50pv80? :p

Thanks for suggesting the best possible Plasma. Please help me with a good sound card because i plan to play my HDDVD and Bluray on my HTPC.I would prefer a sound card with optical out to connect with my receiver for Home theatre set up.

@Chaos: Is the Panasonic 42PV80 widely available in Bangalore? Is there a higher-size option available for around 1-1.2lks? 50" or thereabouts.

I see the 50PV80 being mentioned here. Is that the only affordable option?

I'm looking at a screen for a 10-12ft viewing distance in a large hall. Usage would be 80% TV, 20% Movies. No computer usage or gaming.

Thanks!
Payne

At a distance of 8 ft and a screen size below 50", full HD will make an almost imperceptible diff. Buy a TV for better picture quality not spatial resolution.

Didn't you mean it the other way around? The closer you sit to a television, the more advantage you'll get from a 720/1080p display. When viewed from afar, detail is lost, making the difference between SD and HD indistinguishable.

How do the following models from Panasonic and Hitachi ,match up

VIERA TH-42PV80H vs P42A01A

Please provide your candid views

tryst.. dude just go and see the two screens in action side by side and you would notice the difference. the panasonic has better contrasts and sharpness whereas the hitachi has marginally better colours (if i remm correctly ;) )

and in the end my opinion was that the panny's better! and also more value for money!
