I have an AMD 64 Athlon 3200+@ 2.2Ghz, Asus K8V-Mx mobo, 1 GB Twinmos DDR (I know its crappy  ) I mainly use it to play Q3, WC3 and CS1.6. The problem is the onboard gfx is giving a pathetic performance even on these old games. While Rio has solved my prob with Q3 (which now runs at 125 fps) :hap2: the problem with CS1.6 still persists. I am having to play the game in software mode at 640X480 res and still it gives around 30 fps only which goes down to 15 fps when i am smoked  . Also while playing the floor seems to be flowing like waves on water and WHITE MAPS (inferno and aztec) lag a lot while playing. Earlier I thought that the onboard gfx just doesnt have the firepower to run these games. But recently i saw a local cyber cafe owner running the game at 800x600 res, 16-bit color OPENGL mode without any issues at all. He runs it on a P4 2.4 Ghz, 256 MB DDR, no idea which mobo but definately onboard gfx...So i was wondering if there's any solution to this prob of mine  :'(
[Damned noobs playing online manage to knife me in smoke n act as pros :@ ]

P.S. - I play on a Philips 17" LCD Monitor 170S6 and the onboard gfx is Via/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP 64MB

Oh and I'm not too learned in this field as of now so anybody explaining will have to tell me step wise and in layman terms :ashamed:

Sorry if its a pain and thx for your time :thanx:

Well.. Did you try playing in OpenGL Mode.. I think with the Unichrome, you should get ~60 FPS....

Try it.. And tell us how it works out..

Software mode will never give you anything about 30-32fps...

Im surprised it only drops to 15 in Smoke :P.

ya, i am surprised too...More so because your onboard GFX Via/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP 64MB is the crappiest amongst even onboard GFX

The local cybercafe guy would most probably be using an Intel 845 chipset Motherboard for his P-IV 2.4 which comes equipped with the Intel Extreme Graphics subsystem. Now even Extreme graphics is crappy, but AFAIK, it is still quite a lot better than that S3 Unichrome

In fact if you really don't wanna spend much, get a cheap Used AGP card from someone on this forum, there are more than a few here who'd be willing to dispose their AGP cards for a song! (ranging from as low as 1000/- for a Fx 5200 which would give you a huge improvement over that Via S3, though for that 3200+ of yours, you should get yourself at least a 6600 to do it any justice)

Thx 4 ur efforts Ad1 n Czar, i got a 6600GT n i guess that solves everything. A Special mention 4 Rio without whom I wouldnt ve come across TE nor would ve gotten a great card :hap2:

P.S. - Ad1 u dont play on VS anymore? :(
