Hi Guys,
I have read many threads but still have few questions remaining. One of my major confusions are clear that Games are independent of Format (NTSC/PAL) of Console.

And few things:

1) Which console is available in India from Retail and Grey Markets ?

i.e. Retail - PAL 60 GB
Grey - NTSC 80 GB

2) Will both console be able to play DVDs, Blue Rays from both India & US ?

3) Will it also able to play the Videos which I copy on Plain DVDs, i.e. my Camcorder HD Videos ?

Thx guys, please help me out.

1. Last I checked they only sell Japanese PS3's via gray.

2. Regular dvd region codes apply to the region the ps3 is from. For bluray region codes :

Blu-ray Disc - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jap Ps3 will play US blurays...I have no idea about bluray's sold in India though, if the blurays sold in India are actually region locked to India and the rest of the Group C up there in Wiki, or if they're shipped from Euro region - Somebody gotta' check, but either ways, you won't be able to play blurays officially bought from India on the jap ps3. But US blurays will make their way to gray markets.

C. Any ps3 will play any dvd-/+R/RW

Just avoid the 60GB version if you are getting an NTSC version without warranty. Many of the 60GB ones (These were the first of the PS3's made) seem to be getting the Spin of Death problem some time or the other when you run games that stress the BD Drive. I got the problem with my 60GB PAL PS3 and thankfully since I bought it with Warranty, I am getting a replacement this week.

Below link takes to 80GB and 60GB of PS3:

eBay India: SONY PLAYSTATION 3 80GB + 2 CONTROLLER + 2 GAMES FREE (item 160206498992 end time 20-Feb-2008 13:45:00 IST)

eBay India: SONY PS3 60GB CONSOLE + 1 GAME PLAYSTATION 3 (item 120219766924 end time 20-Feb-2008 17:30:00 IST)

Do you guys have any idea whether they are NTSC or PAL ?

@Param - I've got a 60GB PAL PS3 ;)
Blu-Ray discs sold in India are mostly multi-region - A,B and C.

@Arnold:
Sony India sells PAL PS3s.. we use PAL as a broadcasting system in India :)

India is PAL region. So the Official PS3's here are the PAL versions. Also as far as I know, PS3 is not imported by Sony India. They are all Imported by Milestone Interactive. Sony India only prodvides the after sales service.

As for the 80GB PAL PS3, as far as I know Sony did not release the 80GB version in Europe. So we do not have it either.

@TechHead: Thx for info on BD Disc in India.

@Lord Nemesis: So that means legally only PAL is available here with aftersale warranty not the NTSC version ?
