PlayStation 3 Firmware Cracked...But It Isn't Worth It!!!

Yes, you're reading the headline correctly, the PlayStation 3's firmware has been cracked. And what exploits can this bring? Well, the most notorious of them all, playing pirated games. But whoah, whoah, hold on there, skipper. You see, unlike the PSP where firmware updates didn't really offer too much, the PS3 is a completely different beast. The PS3's firmware has already given us gems like enhancing backwards compatibility and DVD upscaling. Likewise, new games will require a system to have the newest firmware installed in order to be booted (just like PSP games).

But, the most pinning reasons why pirating PlayStation 3 games just isn't a good idea are simple. 1) A recordable Blu-Ray disc costs in the neighborhood of $40. 2) PlayStation 3 games will soon range between 20-40GBs in size and that's a lot to download, even for today's broadband connections. 3) Just like Microsoft, if you get caught with piracy, Sony will likely axe you (read: ban you) from the PlayStation Network. Don't succumb to the stupidity of piracy.

GR8 news for PS3 owners.....but as its mentioned in the headlines "IT AINT WORTH IT"

Can't we copy those "pirated " games to dvds or the ps3's hard drive and then play them?? If this is possible then it might not still be a bad idea. With 1 MBps net connections it won't take that long to donwload games and if ps3 becomes a success story then PSN won't be free anymore. As far as upscaling and other features are concerned,i am sure, it will be taken care of in future firmware upgrades. Anyway with passage of time, cost of recordable Blu-Ray discs will come down and then all this would make sense.

well its true that the PS3 has been cracked, u can just search for ps3 hack in google and u will get the links, but who the heck wants to pay around 2500 to 3000 for every game? games costing 1500 to 2000 are themselves pretty expensive and 3000 is just way tooo much, first pay 40 grands for a console then if u decide t buy atleast 3 games with it then add 9 grands more comes to around 50k, this sucks, everyone in india is not gonna inherit millions so that they can buy as many "original" games they like, sony should price their games right in india at least if not their console, how can they even set the prices in par with the ones in say japan or the u.s.a? whether ethical or not everyone here would see getting a cracked ps3 the only viable option

The PSN will forever be free since sony confirmed tht they'll be making money through microtransactions from the PS store,in-game ads and also ads tht are gonna be placed in the HOME network. They aren't microsoft who'll charge to play online on a PC..example Halo 2 where you'll need a gold account to have the feature of instantly jumping into a game which has less ping..but silver account members get the server browser feature in which they have to search for servers with less ping.
