Hi !
Planning to buy a pen drive upto 16 gb to store personal photo's. What are the chances of the drive going corrupt since it will remain untouched for
long time after copying images. Waiting for the 500 gb seagate go flex free agent but don't want to buy it at this price !

Please suggest.
Thanks..

I have personal photos and i always have fear of losing them as now a days we do not have the physical albums and all.
Although my method is not 100% fool proof, what i do is buy the blank DVDs and write the photos on them and store them. DVDs are cheap and easy way to keep a spare copy even if you know you might never need them.
I had thought about pen drive initially but it was costly (when i checked last time) compared to DVDs and some other reason as well but i don't remember.
You can also take an account on something like dropbox/ skydrive/box.net or something which is paid (reasonable) and store a copy of all the pics online. Picasa etc give limited storage for free so that is out of question.

Thanks for the suggestion..well me too thinking of the dvd option but just that pen drive have got cheaper online these days i mean for a 16 gb its some 300-400 Rs
if its reliable a good option. Created a new account at skydrive by microsoft offering 7 gb free space limit. But i am not too sure if they resize the pics when transfering. can any body confirm ? don't want to loose on the image quality.

Well make a back up on as many media as you can. A ext hdd + DVD combo is good. Recently box has been quite bountiful too do you can use that. Make multiple backups as against using only DVDs pen drives or hdds.

1. If only personal photos and can fit on <16Gb, then just upload them online.

2. AFAIK, none of the proper storage services reformat stuff. What you upload is what you get. TO test, just upload a test pic which is high res and then try downloading the same :P Compare sizes to confirm. :)

For your use case, online storage is your best option. Also check out box.net.

Use online services. Also, AFAIK you can upload to fb too. Just ensure that you select high quality images. I am a fan of Picasa. 1GB is enough for me currently.

Any one knows if box.net has any restriction on how much big a file can be ? Say i want to upload personal videos then?
Personally i would not use FB. I just hate FB :)

Thanks for reminding me about box.net. I have like 50GB space available i just tried uploading multiple pics and it works absolutely fine. I shall be uploading all my pics there tonight. I had thought multiple file upload was premium only.

You got a premium account with box.net ? i get only 5 gb as new user as per the site. right now i think skydrive offers max 7 gb if i am not mistaken.

I got the 50GB when i had the HP touchpad. At that time there was some offer that if you registered through the touchpad you would get 50GB space. That's how it got it.
