1.Disconnect the adsl phone wire from the splitter.Let the main telephone wire be hooked to the phone only. Now pick up your phone and dial only one digit. There will be silence. If you hear some noise/abrupt hisses/clicks/kharkhar ... then it means your phone line is noisy and not suitable for BB use.
What I would do in this case is make 100% from my end that the connections terminating in my home are perfect.
So I open up connectors (the main one where the line comes in your home) and check if the wires which are wound are indeed shiny and not blackened/sooted.Nevertheless what I do is, remove the connections, polish the wires again till they appear shiny and wound them up nicely into their respective place.Stand on some plastic chair ok.Coz 50V dc is still tingy.Dont try to touch the wires with bare hands as much as possible.
Check the phone jacks which go into this main socket.Yes I am talking about the rj11 connector.Take a look at the shiny metal golden connectors.Do they look shiny or gone black or green ? If they have gone black/green replace the wire with new connectors.
Each connection in the phone line is a potential deal breaker.
Same way check all the wires which employ the rj11 connectors for the above.Replace them if possible. If you are feeling stingy then you can just get the wires to local electric shop and get a new connectors attached at both the ends for a small fee.
Now its the turn of the splitter. If your splitter is new then chances are its good. But if its more than some months old maybe years then open it up.You will find a circuit board in it with connectors on either end.Turn over the splitter so that you can view the circuit wiring. Is everything good looking and no signs of green powdery stuff ? Are the wires (on the circuit board ) intact ? And do they look clean ? When I opened up my splitter I found green oxide formation on the etched wires on the board.Which means loss of signal and quality drop.
If that seems the problem .... get yourself a new splitter.Either search them in local market or get from ebay (60 rupees they cost + shipping)
Final thing to check the connector inside the modem where you insert the phone rj11 jack. There are 2 shiny wires in there.Make sure they look clean and shiny. If not try scraping them with a tiny piece of toothpick or some small metal thing like a small screwdriver.Dont bend them.Take utmost care.Do it with surgical precision.
Now after everything is checked and taken care off .. the connection should be like this.
You can connect the router modem directly to the line coming to your place. But you will need to connect a splitter at all those places where you will be connecting a phone.Say Say if you have 2 extensions of phone...one in bedroom and other in living room. Then you will need to install 1 splitter in the bedroom and 1 in the living room and then connect the phones to them.
Fire up the modem and your pc.Go to your dsl stats page and check for SNR margin levels. For a stable connection you need Downstream SNR margin as 15 or 20.If everything is perfect you will get downstream SNR margin in the 30's.If you do you are a OK.
Try it dude.
Thats my first hand experience I am writing. That is what I went through.May be your might be same.
