Dear all,
I am planning to buy a printer for home use. My mother is a professor and needs prints frequently (mostly in black). My younger brothers are in school and are required to get projects and assignments done. The use will not be intensive, around 5-10 pages a day.

Please suggest a printer.

If it has a scanner as well, it's be great!

Thanks for helping.

Been using HP C4688 since the past 5-6 months & it's been great. Fast prints, good color reproduction, PC-less printing/copying/scanning via memory card. Has a small but workable color display too ! Really good VFM. Got it for something around 5.5k if I remember correctly.

HP K209 if you want an all-in-one.

HP K109 if you want just the printer.

Black and Colour Cartridges cost ~ Rs. 450/- each.

Claimed page yield is 600 pages, but realistically you would get about 300~400 pages.

I hope these are still available. I picked up the K109a for roughly 4k.

I think the K209a is a bit more expensive at 7k+. So you could probably just pick up a standalone scanner for ~2k.

There are some newer gen models called K110 and K010. A quick look at the specs and they seem a bit inferior, so I'm not sure if they're improvements or cost-cut models.

Plus they seem to be using newer cartridges (704) that have a lower claimed page yield of 480 pages, though I have no idea about prices.

If your requirements are purely black, you could do even better with an entry level monochrome Laser Printer.

Either Samsung or HP.

P.s.: If indeed you get the K109/K209, a minor tweak you could use is to ensure B&W prints use the Black cartridge only since for some reason they tend to mix in the colour cartridges as well. This should extend the colour cartridge life.
