Hi All,

please help me decide which laptop to choose between as budget and for normal computing purposes like internet surfing, music, downloading or occasionally working on word/excel or my usual stuff to be done on Programming IDE ( QTP ).

below are laptop links :

Asus - http://www.flipkart.com/asus-x43sj-vx509d-pentium-dual-core-2-gb-500-dos/p/itmd4bw97gfru3f2?pid=COMD4BW8EXWQBKGG#read-reviews

Lenovo - http://www.flipkart.com/lenovo-essential-g-series-g470-59-315768-laptop/p/itmd6d6xfpwyemmk?pid=COMD6D6WDFTH9ZSM

I've seen Lenovo and knows abt it but don't have any clue abt ASUS laptops. also, will graphic card of 1GB of any use to me or should i invest that difference of amt in increasing my RAM ( which eventually i've to do in both the systems anyway )

Please repsond if anybody can help me in that as i've to buy one very soon.

Thanks in adv.

unless you are into gaming or going to watch FHD movies... lenovo should be your choice and use the remaining amount to upgrade RAM.

score is 1-1
<

I'm not that into Gaming ....but yes FHD ...why not
<

@Aakash : have you personally seen the ASUS system, are ASUS reliable ??

The specs are almost the same except the gfx. The Nvidia GT520mx appears to be very marginally better than the integrated graphics (Source: http://community.futuremark.com/hardware/gpu/NVIDIA+GeForce+GT+520MX/compare)

Both these machines should be able to play FHD movies easily as my ThinkPad X120e with an AMD E350 processor doesn't break a sweat while playing FHD movies. (http://www.techenclave.com/topic/511073-my-review-lenovo-thinkpad-x120e/)

So everything else being equal, It's basically down to which brand you prefer.

If it were to me, I'd be running the G470 with 4gb ram & ordering pizzas for my friends with the remaining 700+ bucks

I think I have the same laptop, asus X43SJ except I have B940 and aluminium panels. Very sturdy and good build quality. Supra has the same laptop in the config, we've both upgraded the ram to 8GB.

My laptop comes with a pioneer dvd writer
<
thats something rare! and a WD500GB HDD.

wow ... thanks a lott guyyzzzz, to everyone who have responded to my queries [ wow as got too many responses in such a short time ]. Will do some more R&D for ASUS as a product and more abt heating issues if they both have any and then will make the final decision.

Will let you know abt the decision soon ......
<

thanks again ....

#s_anuj Lenovo build quality is not upto the par now a days, especially if you compare them with Asus. The latter has been made from anodized aluminium which results in far better cooling, gradually which leads to less wear & tear and longevity of laptop's life.

Hmmm... you had a bad experience with one?

I'm just extrapolating my experience with ThinkPads to all Lenovo machines. While Thinkpads have a plastic shell... inside is a solid rollcage. I've dropped my X301 multiple times & it still keeps going...

Thinkpads are of totally different league man, they're indeed one of the best out there, but not the regular Lenovo Ideapad and blah blah. No, I have not any personal experiences but have seen some users facing this. I'm not saying that they have a overall bad quality, but their quality has downgraded and I'd prefer Asus over them.

in the meantime ... one bad news guyzzzzzzzz.. ASUS machine i was thinking to buy ....is now showing OUT OF STOCK ...

http://www.flipkart.com/asus-x43sj-...0-dos/p/itmd4bw97gfru3f2?pid=COMD4BW8EXWQBKGG

But yes, one same ASUS series with diff model is there in stock but don;t know whether it will be a gud buy .... ( as Processor speed is descreasing and the color is not white

)

and Lenovo prices has also increased by Rs 500/- ..... i guess ... i've to make a decision very soon now !!

@DestroyMe,

Sorry for hijacking your thread, but even i am in a similar situation. My friend has an Asus X43S bought last month and he has no complaints!

For me,

What's your Budget? 25-28k can extend up to 30k

What will be your primary usage for the notebook be? Internet/Office apps/HDmovies/Music

What size and weight considerations do you have? 15" Full HD compatible

Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? None

Any other considerations?

1. HDD 500 GB or more preferred

2. Decent on-board speakers.

Even I am thinking of Asus (w/o gfx card) and upgrade to more RAM or 750 gb hdd(if they have this option). Maybe, we can get a good deal if ordered at the same time. Do keep me updated!

Just booked ASUS X43SJ for Rs. 23858 only flipkart ( can;t rely on any other than flipkart to book online)

I could suggest you here only, but you're humbly suggested to create a new thread.

I have the exact same laptop, B940 and red. It has aluminium panels, which I consider much much much better than all plastic you get with the other one
<

Congrats on the buy, I suggest you get an additional 4GB RAM for 1200 or so. Worth every penny!

hehehe ....sorry, was so excited while posting the last post that i forgot to mention that i ordered the WHITE one Asus X43SJ-VX509D only { http://tinyurl.com/77jborb } ....

and yessss, it feel so good that when i forgot to mention which machine, suggestion was still in the favour of white one .........

Thanks again to all of you ... you guyzz ROCK !!

Heyy Guyzzz,

Sorry couldn;t update you all about my ASUS laptop ( white beauty
<
) .... she arrived on last Thursday only ( imagine, delivered in just 1 day )
<

So Now the latest update is Princess White is having win7 32 bit OS and soon going to have 64 bit Win7 OS ( as ASUS send this beauty with drivers CD compatible with 64 bit OS only ) ....

Once again Thanx a lotttt to everyone who helped and suggested me or replied on this thread.

Will soon post a Unboxing at appropriate location.
