hi guys

i have Acer Aspire 1641 NWLMi laptop.I already have 512 RAM (2 actually, each 256 MB). i was thinking of making it to 1 GB.

Is it possible to add 512 MB RAM to my existing RAM ? (i am asking this because i don't know if there are more than 2 slots for RAM ?)

and if yes, for much can i get a good 512 RAM for my laptop ?

It appears there are only 2 RAM slots in your laptop. So you will definitely need to remove one stick of RAM and replace it with a higher capacity one in that slot.

The good bit is that it also appears your laptop uses DDR2 RAM. DDR2 prices are dirt cheap - you can pick up a 1GB DDR2 stick for 1.9k ! :)

Is Laptop RAM tht cheap..??
Dell india site, 1 GB RAM is lik 9K...

^ Yep it is, atleast for DDR2 SODIMM sticks. I checked just a week back, and even re-confirmed that it was laptop RAM we were talkin about! :)

DDR1 prices are still kinda high though at around ~ 4.3k, and I doubt their prices will improve much.

Dell or any other laptop manufacturer tend to overprice RAM upgrades - so its usually preferable to pick up the cheapest option and swap it out yourself with RAM bought locally.

thanks a lot for replying.......

yaa, my RAM is DDR2...

i am surprised that 1 GB DDR Ram can be so cheap...

well now two more question :

are you talking about original good company's RAM for this cheap price.... like kingston and others ? please explain...

and if yes, please tell me, where from can i buy them ?

Yes he's talking about good company RAM like Kingston/Transcend/Twinmos

You can get them from your nearby computershop, he'll arrange it for you if he doesn't stock it, may charge 100-200 bucks extra though.

^ Yep, what he said :)

If i'm not mistaken, the pricing was for Transcend RAM.

Where do you stay? The prices i got were from Ritchie street in Chennai.
