Call the service center?

thanks for the quick response:)

i wanted to ..but i thought before calling the service center i would present my case to you guys so that hoping that it would be a a small problem which i fail to understand..also Sony Service centres are Sooo heavy on the pocket :( ..and okay if i call them how much will this problem going to cost me..any suggestion.?:(

Maybe its related to DVD regions. Some players allow changing DVD region for a fixed number of time after which its region locked i.e. DVDs from other regions don't play. Try searching for unlocking this on your player

thx :)
but his DVD player is there with me for around 2 years and have watched many movies ..but ..oK..even if its locked ...how should i unlock

^ You can't do it on your own for Sony. You'll have to take it to the service center. Other brands allow user-firmware flashing and a Google usually gets you a cracked region-free f/w.

From your problem, it looks like a region lock mostly.

Anish , this doesn't look like locked firmware or anything right Victor? dvds doesn't play anymore, Victor?? I think its a problem with lens.. just get it serviced :)

thanks:)

ya No DVD seems to play i guess  .. i think service centre would be my best bet then...thank you guys for all the suggestions :) i would go to thing service center first thing tommorow..

thanks for the help:)

well just an advise...i assume that ur system is no longer under warrranty....the simplest thing u can do is call a guy from the service center or give it for repairs to a someone whom u can trust...u are in delhi so i can't help u there if u were in mumbai i really have some hi-tech off company contacts who can deal in anything and everything in music systems to deal of with and who do not even give a pinch in the pocket...last time i had some small IC issue due to which my 'sherwood' amp wont store fm channels...it was fixed in 250 buks , visit + parts + service....neways coming back to the main point.......the lens seems kaput due to which its not reading dvd's ......expect it to go more kaput sooner or later...slowly vcd's might fail as well......get a 'estimate' from the company guy for the fix....ud' be better buying a new DVD player if the repair cost is too high .....

Lens issue ? Please explain ?

Reading DVDs with their much finer pitch (compared to CDs) allows for very little tolerance in the laser intensity and the lens mechanism...

Which is the reason a failing lens would manifest in DVD read failures first later followed by CD read failure too

this technique is tried & tested by me (philips in my case)
call the company guy... take him in confidence... ask him to repair your system without informing the company... give him what he asks for (it will surely be lesser than what the company charges). you wont get a bill.. anyways your system is out of warranty

in which of the following case will the lens deteriorate more early:-

1) playing ACD, MP3, VCD & DVD media more often.
2) playing only DVD media all the time (assuming all other medias are never played on the player)

My 2 cents.

- you can try using a CD/DVD lens cleaner. IMO they r crap. doesnt really do any major cleaning. some cleaners come with some kind of cleaning liquid, dont know how they are effective, coz the moment the cd starts spinning..... (u know what happens when u spin a plate filled with water it just spills)

- you can manually try cleaning it using an ear-bud lightly soaked with the cleaning liquid. but for that u will need to open up the set, which requires expertise/skill.

- call up the service center for repair/cleaning the lens or change the entire lens system itself (that will pinch more on your pocket).

- final solution continue using the set with mp3/audio cds/vcd till the lens is not able to read them too. then u will have to call the service centre anyways.
