Guys,

Fed up of Partition Magic. Forever!! Heck. :|

Please suggest me an alternative [read noob friendly, lesser restarts and less time consumption for tasks such as partitioning/moving data]. :)

Googling reveals tons of utilities. Unsure of which one to go ahead with.

TIA.
~Gunman.

Acronis Disk Director

+1 for that.

Me using Acronis v10 since last 1 year as well and it works perfectly. However, never stop a partition movement in the between else u mite lose the entire partition. :)

I stopped using these tools a couple of years ago. Now I partition new hdds thru the windows boot cd, and leave it at that. Never need to change partitions :)

I have always used the XP boot CD. Easy and 100% safe.

How about using some Free open source application like Gparted

It support vast formats.

Supported File formats:

gparted_10_small.jpg

GParted -- Live CD/USB/PXE/HD

why do you guys need to keep changing your partitions anyway?

If using windoze, just create one 30-40 GB partition for the OS and leave the rest in another..Use folders to organize your data

If using OS X/Linux, don't bother with partitions at all

^^Seems like migrating to Vista 64 bit from XP 32 is impossible so I wanted to create a new partition in another hard drive to install this OS. :)

Partition magic is crap. Totally fed up. Takes up a lot of time and lot of restarts.

+ for Acronis Disk Director Suite..(ADDs)

i also like GParted..

ADDs has issues wid vista...

all u have to do is boot from linux live disk to use GParted :)

lets u do almost everythng ADDs allow you to.

For Basic partitioning & formating i always use the Windows inbuilt Disk Management feature, since the Time it was available With Windows 2000. I think you should give it a shot.........

Whats wrong with windows utility..

It does not handle all the Formats, also its very basic.

Many Features of are missing, like you can manage flags like boot, lvm etc

Can Acronis Disk Director handle merging partitions at runtime (with or without data?)

How can we do that?

U can do splitting, merging, and whatever u like :bleh: with Acronis at runtime except ofcourse restoring ur Windows partition. :)
