This is my first post. Just joined today. So if you find any mistakes or suggestions, please point me to "EDIT"...

This question is asked probably several times, but I think my requirements are unique, so I am just posting it :

My Current Home network has :
  • 2 HP TouchPads from the firesale
  • 1 Ipad 2
  • 3 Smartphones Mix of Android,WP7 and IOS
  • 3 Windows 7 Laptops
  • 1 Windows 2008 Server (Desktop)
  • 3 Panasonic Cordless phones working on 5.4 Ghz (I included this because new router should not conflict with it's frequencies).

I have ordered a XBOX 360 250 GB new+kinect and it will be coming to me in Feb with my parents from US
<

My current connection is BSNL 512 kbps+ It's ADSL Modem and the wifi router is 3 year old linksys AP.

Question :

I am looking to upgrade my router because presently I am facing frequent disconnects from my home office, so trying to decide which one. Here is my requirement :
  • Be able to download Torrents from it (hopefully through TPB via Magnets)
  • Preferably be able to download other HTTP files
  • Serve as UPnP server so that media can be seen through XBOX 360. Media files will be 720p at max and regular movie files from torrent (XVID etc).
  • Preferably be able to use SAMBA so PCs can see network shares.
  • Should have good range for 20-25 feet with 1 Wall in between.
  • In future I should be able to use it for Print Server
  • It should be a good router, in other words should not keep hanging when working with torrents.
  • In future be able to work with VOIP device

Based on my requirements, I shortlisted : ASUS N13U and ASUS N56U. Initially I wanted to get N56U but then I read in some forums that it has lot of problems. I haven't researched other routers that fulfill my requirements. So I need your expertise, please guide me.

If N13U/B1 can fulfill my requirement, I would rather not spend extra, but if I have to shell out extra for my requirements, I will do it

How big is your home ? If not huge with less walls then RTN13 else RT-N56U, dd wrt is released for RT-56U which would resolve all the problem which people might have been facing.

Thanks shadow and dinjo, for helping with my queries.

@dinjo : my house is not that big something like 3500sqft, but the problem is my router/internet cables are at enterance hub, concealed in the walls, so I can't move the location. The distance between router and my home office should be roughly 25 feet with 1 wall in between.

Lets say I buy N13U, can I get it to work in "repeater" mode and at the same time download torrents for me ? This will enhance my range as well. If it does work in repeater mode, I assume it will work as a "G" connection since my other router is a "G" and not "N" ?

I purchased ASUS RTN13 router from HS18 for @ Rs. 2699 (500 Rs. Discount). Thanks guys...

setting dd-wrt compatible router on v24sp2, as a repeater, is fairly simple. Asus rt-n13u b1 easily fits the bill... go ahead and get it !!
