Right now I am driving a 5 year old Honda City and looking to buy a hatchback for daily commute(35-40km/day in thick city traffic, weekend long drives once or twice a month)

Initially thought of disel, but not sure whether to extend the budget to 6.5/7L as I will sell it off after 5/6 years.

Since your montly commuting would be more than 1200 kms, I would suggest to look for diesel hatchback. Its better to extend your budget a bit and get good diesel hatchback.

Regarding which car, It all boils down to your priorities like FE, space, power, looks etc. If you have any car in mind list it here.

I would suggest Beat Diesel LT(top end) purely based on easy for city driving and Swift VDI(mid variant) for both as its fun to drive and got more power to cruise on highways.

Do not like the looks of Beat(too many curves, grooves for such a small car and it is seriously underpowered),the waiting period for Swift disel is about 6 months.

How is the Ritz?

Beat mid variant is ok but ritz aint much better as well.it has a terribly high engine noise and the rear design looks a bit odd for my taste.

I will recommend you to exceed the budget and go for a i20 instead.safe and a great all round diesel hatchback.looks mint as well.

Ofcourse if you consider its highway performance though low end torque of Beat would be good enough for city drive. If you can wait, get Swift or Swift Dzire. If you want highway cruiser then nothing beats Fiat Punto in terms of sheer looks and highway stability and dynamics.

To make it simple, no car is perfect and you have to compromise on something.

I surveyed with almost simillar requirements 2 months back.

If you are looking for best VFM car nothing matches Beat. I had also short listed Ritz, and I did not like its handling and response compared to Beat so purchased beat.

there are 4 variants (basic, LS, LT and LT with airbags and ABS). To me LT version costed 5.9 Lakhs on road in Gujarat.

I am not sure about other options pricing wise like Polo, Fabia, Micra etc.

i am talking about diesel, petrol will be cheaper by 70-90k model wise.
