Hi,

I need your help in choosing a laptop. My budget is Rs.42,000/-

My usage:
1)Movies and Music
2)Downloading and surfing
3)Gaming
4)Basic Video editing

I had chalked down acer 5745G which has i5-450m, 1 gb nvidia GT 330m, 4gb ram, 500gb HDD, 15.6 screen. I had gone to Lamington Road this weekend to purchase this laptop. Few retailers over there gave me bad reviews about this laptop, for instance, they told me it has overheating issues, its battery is not good and needs to be replaced after few months and support is not that great. They were recommending Dell Studio and HP g series.

So now I'm totally confused which laptop I should go for. So guys please help me out.

If anyone in the forum uses acer 5745G then please do share your experience.

Thanks in advance.

If you are planning to play games on the laptop then you have to look at other options as dell comes with ati 545v which isnt good and you should look for atleast an Ati 5650 based laptop like:

1.lenovo Y-560 with i3@2.4Ghz+Ati 5730+4gb ram+500gb hdd @46k

2.Asus k42ja with i5-460+Ati 5730+2gb ram+640gb hdd@44k

3.sony vaio EB36 with i3@2.4Ghz+Ati 5650+4 gb ram+500gb hdd+Full HD screen@50k

i,ll suggest u buy acer 4820tg. it,s the best laptop with 8 hours of battery backup and comes with Ati 5650 graphics card, i5 460m, 3gb ddr3, 500gb hard disk for rs 42000

RS4, thank you for your suggestions. Sony EB36 is way out of my budget. I have read bad reviews about Asus support so won't go in that direction. Will keep Y-560 in list, will have to stretch my budget for it though :)

malefic, thank you for your suggestion. Battery life is not a priority for me as this laptop will be used at home so it will always be plugged-in while in use. Does this come with a 15.6 inch screen?

Is acer 5745g really that bad. This machine is fully loaded and also fits in my budget. Should I just ignore the review (see above) I got from one retailer at lammie and go ahead and purchase this monster?

You have quoted wrong specs mate, the acer 4820TG with i5+ati 5650 comes at around 50k, the 42k model of 4820TG comes with i3@2.13Ghz+Ati 5470+3gb ram+320gb hdd and the screen size for the entire acer 4820TG range is the same: 14 inch

i recently visit the acer mart at nehru place delhi and this price is quotted by them and i have thier brochure where he had written the best price of rs 42000.

the mrp written in the brochure is Rs 45800.

and one more thing for op Acer 5745g is discontinued temporarly and the acer guy told me to wait for atleast 1 week as acer 5745g will be released with new graphics card.

^^If you are really getting Acer 4820TG with i5+Ati 5650 at 42k,then just grab it as this model comes with excellent battery life along with very good specs in a small package of 14 inch :)

Acer 5745G is soon going to come out with new GForce GT 425 M, so the delay and out of stock. I love acer models. I have ACER 5745 with out dedicted graphics. working fine, i prefer acer because of its quality. Remaining what others talk about it, i will not listen much.

I am an a AMD fan since K6-II, and now having X6. So many people discouraged me with saying AMD is bad etc. But i stay with it, because i know AMD devices. Initially with dual cores of AMD we have some issues, which rectified later.

why am telling this is, when we go for something so many dealers will discourage us, because they want to sell what they have.. it's up to you to stick with it or not..
