Storage Solutions Please suggest an Internal Hard Drive...

Hi guys, came to TE after quite some time.

You guys helped me a lot to decide on my rig.

Now as my HDD space is exhausting, I am looking for an Internal HDD. My budget can be extended to around Rs.5000

I have a mobo which supports SATA 3 ie. SATA 6Gbps.

Now SMC is selling a Western Digital 1TB Black SATA III HDD for 5k here in Delhi.

Now my main doubt is going for a SATA III really worth it ? Will it have any impact on gaming performance ? Is it worth that much money as I am a getting a 2TB HDD at the same price which is SATA II.

Also any good seagate drives in that range ?

Thanks!

You haven't mentioned the usage of this drive - is it going to be used for mass storage or the primary drive where the OS + apps reside?

Grab this while it lasts. Not worth investing in the Caviar Black 1TB at this price point.

Ya its gonna be my primary drive, ie. I am gonna install 64-bit OS on it..

The drive u mentioned..has 5900RPM rather than 7200RPM, any difference ?

Don't go for a 5900 RPM drive if you're planning to install OS/Apps/Games on it. If 1TB is enough for you at this time, then go for the WD Black that you've mentioned. But, my advice would be to use a 250GB/500GB Black/Blue drive for OS/Apps/Games + a 1TB/2TB Green drive for storing media.

...or you can just go for a 2TB Green drive and install OS/Apps/Games on your existing Blue (?) HDD.

Thanks for the reply, But It will be a waste if I buy a SATA3 drive and not use it for OS, I wont be able to see the speed difference(if there is any)..

The 1 TB WD Black 6Gbps is coming for 5k, and Seagate 2TB 6Gbps is for 4.9k, The only difference is 5900RPM and 7200RPM, SO what is the final call ?
