Hello folks :)

I wanted to get into the entire RPG genre. Could the RPG-holics here suggest me some good RPG titles (Platform: PC)?

The only RPG games I have ever played (till date) and completed are: Deus Ex 1, Deus Ex 2: Invisible War and Neverwinter Nights 1. I'm looking for games with many quests to do and which will last me a good while to play-through.

Thanks,
Black_Hawk

Borderlands is my favorite and the only RPG I liked. Its actually an RPG shooter, has about 50 hours of playthrough.

If you have played NeverWinter Nights, then.. Dragon Age Origins is a must play for you.

And, others like Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, Fallout 3, The Witcher, Mass Effect 1,2.

@Black_Hawk, Why are you avoiding my emails, sms's, facebook friend request, te pm's & gtalk messages bro?

Mass Effect 1 & 2 - ME 3 is due this fall. This is in fact the only RPG I've played by far, if the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise and Borderlands cannot be counted as RPGs. Borderlands and the stalker games are primarily FPSs with bits of RPG elements thrown into them.

You will not be disappointed with the ME series.

Hello all!

Thanks folks for the many suggestions I will pick up ME 1 this evening and begin playing it... :) Off late, I just don't have the same liking for FPS titles I used to have. Don't know why, they just stopped appealing to me.

@ Udit:
Mate, I did accept your FB friend's request yesterday. It's not showing in your account? I will be online today on GT in the evening... will catch up :)

Since you have already played 2 of the best RPGs DX1,NWN
Use this as a comprehensive list of what to play next

The stuff most new rpg players have played:
ME 1/2
Morrowind
Oblivion
Dragon Age
The Witcher
Fallout 3
NWN 2
Thief 3(not strictly a RPG, but hard to find any other game with the immersion....and it is worth playing for 'the cradle' level alone)

Older titles but more awesome:
Final fantasy 7
System Shock 2
Fable
Baldur's Gate 2
Icewind Dale
KOTOR 1/2
Fallout 2
Planescape Torment
Vampire:The masquerade

Even older/retro and awesomer than others above:
Nethack
ADOM
Dwarf Fortress
Daggerfall
ChronoTrigger(PS/GBA/DS)
Betrayal at Krondor
Baldur's Gate
Fallout

This should keep you busy for a few years

Awesome list !! Like :P

@ Black Hawk - Play ME2 once you're done with ME. Will be an awesome experience to continue the journey without any gap but the interface is totally different and you may struggle a bit initially. And don't forget to import the ME character when starting ME2

Mass Effect 1 & 2 is a must play

Dragon Age Origins is okay.

Definitely play the Witcher.

Avoid Neverwinter Nights if you havent played RPGs before. You may not understand the mechanics of how the game works.

Baldur's gate is worth a try.

For old school games, DEFINITELY play Diablo 2. The best and most hardcore hack-n-slash RPG ever made. The game ACTUALLY gave people Carpel Tunnel's Syndrome (permanent pain in the wrist) and was the reason for many many broken mice (facts, not made up stuff). Or wait for Diablo 3 to release early next year.

OMG!! That's one helluva list. Thank you, thank you, thank you. :)

great suggestions ..seeing your previous experience with RPG and current disliking with FPS , I will suggest, start your new journey of RPG with The Witcher Enhanced Edition (get it from Steam),,its a single player ( non party based ),sword n magic, medieval setting and developed by European (polish) developer CD Project. It will give a different taste then most of the RPGs developed y american developer

Demon souls is also one good RPG.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as well

But as you are strictly PC ,

Play these First :

Mass Effect 1 and 2 .

Dragon Age origins

When you get the feel of RPG and are ready to explore the world, get in to some real RPGs Like : ( no ofense to the above games , they are great games but If we talk strictly RPG elements )

morrowind, Oblivion, etc.

NOTE: IF you play just the Main quet , the experience wont be good :(, spend several hundred hours in these then you will understand. Step in only when you are willing to .

Then IF you love the RPG Elements o these game soo much that you are willing to look beyond the eye-candy .

play the Older titles like KOTOR, Baldur's Gate 1&2

Yeah the new crop of RPG's and RPG-esque FPS's are great especially those produced by the Eastern European/ Ukranian descent --

The Witcher (Witcher II Assassin of Kings is due May) -- If you only buy the Witcher standard you can up it to the Enhanced Edition after regestiring your copy.
Dragon Age: Ultimate Edition -- For 999/- a killer deal + you get all DLC's + the Expansion Pack Dragon Age: Awakening.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series -- pure FPS + a twist of RPG (long side-quests as well as the game progresses you get better shooters<which you can buy or loot>).
Mass Effect -- lik the conceptual art, the first one isin't that long but a very satisfying experience nonetheless.
Knights Of The Old Republic KOTOR 1 & 2 -- BioWare's first great treat to the followers of the Force. (The follow up The Old Republic comes in the Holiday season this year -- tenative Dec, Nov -- hope it comes to INDIA)
Mount & Blade

these are all I can think of apart from Neverwinter Nights, The Elder Scrolls (all four editions, Skyrim comes in Nov this year), Fallout. Enjoy bruv.
