i am going to upgrade my gpu in a day or two

pls suggest which one to

my rest of the config is in my signature

I have a 22 inch LCD so native resolution of 1680 X 1050

I already have a 8600gt, is it worth upgrading to 9600gt from that ?

with this resolution, minimum is 9800GT, 9800GTX is desirable, 4850 is VFM and 4870 is perfect+ultra goodness.

an 8600 is a decent card at its price,

and can play most games at medium quality...leaving out Crysis & BioShock kind of games.....

however the 9600 gt is a monster compared to the 8600 which is handicapped with just 256MB of memory....

so finally...if u can shell out some extra cash for playing heavy duty games at decent quality, 9600GT is the way to go....

In games like Crysis, Clear Sky, at 1680x1050, the extra 4-5 frames a 9800GT will provide over a 9600GT will be quite helpful.

if i get a 4850 or 9800gt there are two problems

1) cpu is x2 4400 this will be bottleneck

2) i have cooler master extreme power 500 w will it be ok ?

experts pl advice

My friend runs a 4850 on a Coolermaster 500W PSU just fine, so that won't be a problem. Although a better PSU would be recommended, especially if you plan to overclock.

The X2 would definitely be a bottleneck for 4850.

My 9600GT still needs more breathing space even after overclocking my proc to 2.8GHz. So, it would no doubt bottleneck a 4850.

here are the specs for my cooler master PSU

what all gfx cards can it handle 4850 and 9800gt ??

Cooler Master - Ultimate provider of Computer Chassis | Cooler | Power Supply

also i have 3 HDDs running

Since you are going to be playing on a 22incher, the best card for your rig would be a 4850. but, like has already been mentioned the X2 would be a major bottleneck.

What i would suggest is, getting a better processor for now and upgrading your GPU after a couple of months maybe. The 4830HD would have released in India with proper availability by then, and you'll have a much clearer picture on making a good choice(considering that the 4830 being a newer card would be more future safe :) )

that is simple

many coolmaster psu 460 500 and 600 also 650 and 700 watt

has 18 amps at dual 12 v rail 18+18=36 amps :P

so the ati 4850 need min 25-27 amps at single 12 v or dual raill
yes this card might bottlnest amd x/2 u need u oc the cpu or get intel duo e7200 with p45 board :)

Get 4850, it beats all Nvidia offerings in 12k budget inc GTX+, screw online reviews, I had GTS @ 800/2000/2400 (much higher than any GTX+). It beats by good margin.

he has a sad proccy which'll bottleneck his card like anything.

@OP take a look at the crysis benchmarking thread to get an idea about this.

I dont have the option of upgrading proccy now :(

So i may end up getting 9600gt and play at 1440 X 900

Anyways is there a significant difference between 8600gt and 9600gt ?
is it worth upgrading.

Also will my CPU be bottleneck for 9800gt ?

currently my options are 9600gt and 9800gt so pls advice

Guys one final suggestion..

Which one to go for

palit 9600gt = Rs 6900

Palit 9800gt = Rs 8600

is palit ok or should i ask some other brand ?
