Okay i am new in this forum and this is my first post.Pls. help me out guyz.
I am seriously considering buying a ps2 right now. So tell me what all i need to know before i go out and buy a ps2.
So far i have never used any consoles for gaming and have have only gamed on a computer. So how's gaming on a console compared to a computer?
How's the ps2 controller compared to a computer mouse and a keyboard?? Will the ps2 controller be a problem in FPS games??

Also i plan to run "ahem" games.Tell me what all i need to buy and what should i keep in mind before i go out and buy the ps2 so that i can run those games without any trouble.Do the shop keepers provide any warranty for the product and if not what are the chances of the device going kaput??I mean
how long do these consoles last before going bust??
How much willl the entire setup cost me?? What do the games cost and how widely are they available?? Also how to connect them to a tv? Also tell me about some good ps2 games available in the market.

Search : Pc vs Consoles

Summary : You need to check out both and decide for yourself, is it the sofa, ease of gaming and low cost with amazing game library with some of the gamings biggest blocbuster franchises exclusive which the consoles enjoy OR is it comparatively much more expensive but always next-gen, graphics that blow the consoles out of its league, immense modding scene with the best simulator platform, which would define PC gaming.

No. It won't be better, but it won't be worse. People will argue on this, but then you can go out there foryourself, and witness the popularity games like Resident Evil 4, Gears of War and HALO games enjoy - All shooters, exclusive to consoles.

Ps2 has a pretty massive library when it comes to FPS. You'll never end up playing them all. From Black to Killzone, to Area 51 to Timesplitters.

Also i plan to run "ahem" games.Tell me what all i need to buy and what should i keep in mind before i go out and buy the ps2 so that i can run those games without any trouble.Do the shop keepers provide any warranty for the product and if not what are the chances of the device going kaput??I mean

get an already modded-console, make sure there and then that the chip will play Ps1 games as well on direct boot as chips before have been claimed to play Ps1 games but don't actually. its better if you get your Ps2 from a popular market, newer stocks of the slim ps2 come with top-of-the line mod chips.

About warranty, I think it depends from shop to shop, but I stand corrected if anybody can answer this better.

About longevity, my Ps2 is 2 years old and still play backed up copies as if they were originals. It depends on how you keep your console. Keep it in an open area, making sure it gets its share of air, when not playing, keep it in a secure location and cover it up to prevent dust.

Occasionaly, clean the Ps2 lens yourself with cotton ear buds, very carefuly just run them over the lenses and the Ps2 will be good as new again.

Entire setup...Modded Ps2+Extra Dualshock 2 original Controller + 8mb Mmc shouldn't cost you anymore than 9-10k max. About the controllers, NEVER buy it from anywhere except Sony World or order it online from Ebay making sure the seller is selling the original stuff. If you're buying it from a store, MAKE SURE its box packed.

Believe me, when you're playing games like Gran Turismo 4, you'll immediately notice the difference between counterfeit and original controllers. In Delhi, I can't find original box packed controllers anywhere except Sony World in Connaught Place.

You'll get cables wit hthe Ps2 to connect to the TV. They are standard yellow-red-white cable that go in the video port of your TV. Most TV on since 2000 have them.

About gmaes, pick up Resident Evil 4, Gran Turismo 4, random Burnout game, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, God Hand, Okami, Bully, Final Fantasy 12, Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit, WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007 and God Of War just for starters. After that use sites like Gamespot.com, Ign.com or 1up.com to find you the best games of the genre you're most interested in.

Good Luck.

Thx a ton params.Repped ya.

Just a few more thing.... How will the targetting in a FPS game be using the Dualshock 2 controller?? Will it be manual or automatic.

Also will the games look worse on a 34 inch HD crt tv( i am currently using this tv)?? Or do i need a smaller 21 inch tv?? Also do tvs flicker while playing a ps2 game on it( just asking because i have seen a demo where the tv flickered a lot--though i believe that was the fault of the tv)?

And finally why do you need a 8mb Mmc ??

Eh..manual. Kinda depends on the game you're talking about.

The smaller the TV the better the quality. Yeah, you'll be getting some jaggies on your 34 incher. I'd game on the 21 inch if I were you.

And I've yet to encounter any flickering activity, if its anything, its either faulty wiring/connection or your TV. Maybe your TV can't take high refresh rates which some games like Re4 offer in the starting, select the lower one and there shouldn't be any flickering.

^^ ya it's a 34 inch philips tv.

Well that would be a problem since i only have 2 tvs --- one is the 34 incher and the other one is very old and doesn't have any video ports on it. So can i then connect my ps2 to my computer monitor ??

U'll need a TV Tuner card if you want to connect the PS2 to computer. I guess there's also an adapter thru which u can connect it to computer but its hard to find in India.

I have a PS2 and i can say that playing FPS games is not that good on PS2. It feels quite awkward playing FPS games using the dualshock controller.

One FPS game i somewhat enjoyed playing on my PS2 was "Black".

Oh i see. Thank you guyz.Maybe i will buy a second hand tv my neighbour is selling.

BTW, techhead its 4:3 not 16:9
