Popups !

Smith

Explorer
i recently formatted my sys and have the following s/w installed

winxp sp2
AVG 7.0 up-to-date
ZA Pro up-to-date
Google toolbar (supposed to be blockin popups)

nowadays im getting many popups including while browsing TE..earlier i never used to get these (before formatting).

Google toolbar says its blocking popups, and so does ZA

but i still get annoying ads popping up like crazy.

p.s: i use both FF n IE6:)

any help guys? :S

Yep, i would personally recommend ad-aware. Do a thorough check up and clean any rogue entries. Having a firewall/pop-up blocker does not help much in stopping adware/spyware

i did all that, but still something is wrong:S

some suspicious processes called First-view.exe, and some random lettered exes are running in the taskmanager :S

did a complete system scan by both AVG and Ad-Aware SE (latest definitions)

barely 320MB of 512MB is free compared to the usual 350-360MB

Go to start->run->msconfig.msc or simply msconfig.Under startup ,look for entries that do not have a full file path. eg simply a abcd.exe without the c:/prog... so on . uncheck these entries .Similiarly check under the services tab in msconfig for visibly fishy services from say a toolbar or unusual name. Posting your hijacklog as suggested would also help.

Posting Hijackthis log.

pls note that process called view first.exe, is that a system process?
another thing is that, about affter 10 mins of comp usage, the iexplore.exe(internet explorer) process starts by itself and i am not able to end it (no windows of IE are running). it hogs about 20M of memory :(

edit: wasnt able to attach file . clicking on the "go advanced" button ended in a quick post :O

hence am pasting complete log here.
