Hey Guys,

I'm facing a very peculiar problem, I have 2 portable HDDs (320GB WD & 500GB Seagate Freeagent) and both were working perfectly until this morning. I used it last evening and after that ejected it and left the computer on and noticed that windows was getting updates. This morning neither of the 2 portable hdds work in normal mode but work in safe mode perfectly. When i connect them in normal mode, the indicators on the HDDs are normal but it doesn't showup in my computer and when i try to see if its listed in the eject control the comp freezes. They have been listed In device manager, i have uninstalled them and reconnected but same problem. My 4gb usb stick works perfectly in normal and safe mode.

Please help

Check for viruses/ malware. Use the Kaspersky Online Scanner in case u use some other AV.

Observation - 2

These Portable HDDs work perfectly when i disable NOD32 & Spyware doctor. I did virus and spyware scan and of course I did expect it to pick up some infections as i had many cracks and keygens. It is just peculiar coz this is a brand new computer. My earlier computer crashed. Mind you these portable HDDs worked perfectly even with NOD32 and Spyware doctor enabled in my old comp.

Here is the config of my new comp

AMD Athlon X2 5200+

2GB DDR2 RAM

Using 160GB HDD from the old comp

Gigabyte S-Series Motherboard - M61PME-S2P

@techfreak, yea dude, I had already experimented with all that you mentioned, but the result was same.

I suspected XP SP3 to be culprit and uninstalled it as well but yet the same results.
