Hey all...

My sis wants to get an portable laptop with decent battery life and a lil bit of power(more than the eeePC/acer one/msi wind and the likes)

Budget is strictly 55k max

the best option seems to be dell xps 1330 with standard config with t8100 proccy
please let me know if there are any other options in hp, lenovo or any other reliable brands

main priority is weight and battery life

I was wondering if there is a noticable performance difference between the processors t5850 and t8100 and is it worth 2.4k to get the latter one?

usage will be general office and surfing for 6 months or so
after that it might be pushed a bit though not too much(a lil bit of gaming and multitasking(vmware))

won't need a gfx as the onboard can handle cs, quake and other old games

how much difference is there actually between the standard and the WLED display?
I am not sure if its worth 5.1k .....

also does it have some heat issues or is it only with the discrete gfx ones

Thanks in advance
Leo

At that budget 1330 is the only option thats worth it. I have been hunting around with a similar requirement in mind. I dont think you want to consider a compaq 12"?

The T8100 is worth the 2.4K. You get better FSB, clock speed and L2 cache. Also I think it is more power efficient. Not to mention the X3100 is better than the GM950 onboard gfx.

The WLED on the other hand is not worth the 5K upgrade. No substantial gain in either battery life, dimension or weight.

How about the New Macbook for another 10k?, i think its worth it.

Its much better Specs wise, build quality and performance wise than the 1330.

And of course, you can run both Windows and MAC OSX on it.

Have been lookin at 13 and 12 inchers recently :)

Acer has a model 12" ~40k - aspire 6292, T7500 (2.2Ghz)

HP TX2009AU 12" - 52-53k

HP DV3005TX 13" T5550 (1.8Ghz) ~56k

LG R200-E.CP37A2 T7300 (2 Ghz) ~50k

Compaq 12" <45k.

Last but not the least, the Inspiron 13 is out. Just saw it in a store for 47k. Its a cheaper alternative to the xps 1330. Intel onboard. Casing is exactly same as the xps casing (saw both side by side, same buttons/hinges/panels, its just got no silver finish) :)

Thanks for the response guys...

My budget is strictly 55k so can't look at anything above that

@techie_007
the inspiron is nice but the basic config comes with DC instead of C2D i think and its around 0.3-0.4 kg heavier than the xps.
i'll ask about its config if its available here.
and thanks for the other options but the xps 1330 comes on top of them in one way or the other for me

So for now I am all set for xps 1330 unless something better comes along

Thanks for the help guys

I preferred the Inspiron over the 1330 actually. Almost same config for like 10 k less.(you dont need a graphics card anyway). The one I saw had a C2D. 47k.

Today I went to the dell store and the inspiron is 48800 here with c2d(t5750) and 160GB hdd and same config with proccy(t5850)for the xps in the shop was 56.8k

for xps same proccy(t5850) with 250GB is 52k(all inclusive) on dell site

the shop also was giving bluetooth headset and 15 month mcafee with the xps package
i don't think i will use either so its pretty much useless

so it seems it will be better for me if i order online with a proccy upgrade(t8100) which will take the final cost to 55.6k

Any thoughts???
