Possible to disable PXE.COM on a LAN card ?

Just got a PRONET PN/300R Fast Ethernet Adapter. The LAN cards in my system seem to die every year or so. Anyway, everytime I boot the system, the LAN card runs PXE.COM from its firmware. Takes a lot of time and is driving me nuts. Can it be disabled or something ?

googled around and found this solution: in bios, under boot settings, make the cdrom device 1st boot, then hdd, then if required usb and last the lan.

or 1st should be hdd, then cdrom, then usb, then lan.

right now i have only hdd-0. would prefer not to have optical drive as 1st boot device.
