The ADSL modem/routers used for MTNL Triband have both a USB port and Ethernet port. Is it possible to use both simultaneously ( with two computers ) ?

Alternatively, can you use them one at a time - that is if you have one PC connected to the Ethernet port and the other PC connected to the USB port ?

Someone I know just got a second PC. They were wondering what would be the best way to share a Triband connection.

Thanks. Hope this isn't a silly question.

u can use one PC at a time definitely....not sure abt silmuntaneous use....some 1 with 2 PC's on that modem will have to reply

im thinkin if u put the modem into auto connect mode and not dialup modem(bridged)

then u can use 2 computers at a time..

and remember to enable dhcp on the modem.

worked for me once..

dont think dhcp has got much to do with it....if u give different IP's to the 2 PC's....but yes u wld have to connect using PPoE mode and not bridging to have that....again not sure abt this particular routers ability to connect to 2 PC's at the same time

I use my Airtel BB connection this way many times. I've both a USB and ethernt port on my 220BX Beetel ADSL2+ modem. My PC is connected via USB and my laptop is connected via Ethernet cable.

This is so that I can download torrents on my PC and check my office mails on my laptop. Best part is, I establish a secure connection on my laptop when it is shared with my PC(I have to disconnect the modem from the USB port on my PC, start the secure client application and once connected to my office n/w, I re-connect my PC to the modem via USB. Works like a charm.)

Thanks, I'll try it out when I'm there next. By the way, what would be the max length of the Ethernet cable ? The PCs are in separate rooms.

I will not work i think as i tried something similar with my Huwaei modem looong back.

Dont cross 100m for Cat5e

100 mts is max... be safe and max out at 80.. the signal will start do degrade from then on..
and yes it will definately work on a modem+router

dont know about adsl modems...
