Just got my usb-uirt today. ( USB- Universal Infra-red Reciever and Transmitter ) www.usbuirt.com

Now, using it along with a magical piece of software called Girder (http://www.promixis.com/), I plan to completely control my PC thru a remote control. Later on, I'll extend control to other devices, so I'll be able to control my TV, DVD Player and music system thru my PC.

Expect a review/guide soon. Now, just to wet your teeth, heres what a guy has managed to do -

i have a cheapo all-in-one remote, a usb-uirt, and a x10-ir receiver.my $15 remote has a macro button....i programmed the macro button to send out an x10 command which triggers a x10 module that turns powers up my HTPC (from being completely off). My HTPC triggers another x-10 module to turn on my external hard drive array (12 x 250 gig drives).
girder then is automatically launched..using the usb-uirt, girder dims the room lights (lutron maestro dimmers), turns on the television, selects the input for the tv, turns on the receiver, sets the volume level on the receiver, selects the HTPC/spdif as the audio source for the receiver, turns on the buttkicker amp (via a x-10 module again), and launches meedio.
once in meedio, the remote controls all meedio functions..
when you exit meedio....girder turns up the room lights, turns off the buttkicker amp, turns off the receiver, turns off the television, and finally turns off the HTPC, which in turn shuts down the external hard drive array.
completely automated from start to finish...

Pretty impresive, ehh?
