Hi! frndz..

its been quite sometime since i felt good working on my little thing called pc...for the last few months i'v been getting some constant irrittaing sound(hissing/chirrr/chirr sound that increases while scrolling text/webpages/pressing keys etc.) from my cabby( zebronics lava)...seems to be coming from the SMPS(90% sure)...so thinking of getting the SMPS(powersafe 400W) replaced though i still have abt a year's warranty left....i'm also looking fwd to upgrading my current make-shift system to a c2d soon...n with reasonable chances of a close relative coming from US in a month's time i thought i'd take ur help in deciding whether to get one good PSU(preferably >=500W) with a budget of around Rs. 5k locally or from US...local availability of OCZ/Enermax etc. are a problem i guess and antec ones would cost around 30-40% higher in local markets.

i have zeroed in on the following: (prices within 5k range after rebates n discounts)

Newegg.com - Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 ATX12V 500W Power Supply 115/230 V TUV, UL, CUL, CE, CB, FCC - Retail - antec smart power 2.0 500W PSU

Newegg.com - ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT ATX12V 500W Power Supply 90V~265V (Auto Adjusted) UL, cUL, TUV, CB - Retail - enermax 500W

Newegg.com - OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply 100 - 240 V - Retail - OCZ 700W

kindly help me decide which 1 to get...

thanks.

I know it does exceed you budget of 5K, but so does the OCZ one. if you can go upto 7K, u might look into this..:)

just the many things i read about the multi-rail myth..if u can afford it, i'd say go for a powerful single rail..

^^in that case, u might wait a bit for prime to start stocking silverstone and see the prices there.

Also, a TE member had previously faced issues with an OCZ ps from US, and i think he had problems rma'ing it. so availiblity indian warranty might be a bonus..

@chaos: how much advanatage do you think a powerful single rail has over multiple rails with max amperage of 18a?..well of course excepting those PSU's which behave as a single rail under load. i know seasonic is such a one, but i dont know abt others.

:) Why don't you get the corsair 620 watt locally...above your budget but local warranty and more then sufficient for a decent c2d with say a 8800gtx....and other reg stuff

There are both pluses and minuses. If a single rail PSU fails, there's a higher chance if it taking out everything. The risk of fire is also higher on a single rail psu, though a well designed done should do absolutely fine. Multirail was introduced only for safety purposes and nothing else. If a multirail is loaded properly, it should run okay.

well....all plans of upgrading to c2d temporarily on hold...was even thinking of getting a toshiba c2d lappy (900$ - gr8 price for a 15.4",1GB ddr2 667,160GB hdd) via a cousin who works for toshiba.....will think of getting a corsair 620W locally if the toshiba deal doesn't come through.
