BELIEVE it or not it is still possible to passively cool the high-end graphics chips.

Arctic cooler made a nice big passive heat sink with four heat pipes that can keep the temperature of ATI's 80 and 90 nanometre chips codenamed RV570 or R580+ even below the temperature of ATI's reference design.

Arctic claims that the passive cooler keeps the X1950PRO at 63 Celsius while the ATI reference one runs at 67. The cooler has a Special heatsink for the voltage regulators and memory cooling.

The products based on PowerColor's X1950PRO and XT cards are going to end up only $10 more expensive than the existing cards and they will be the fastest passively cooled cards on the market. The X1950PRO costs $199 so you can expect be asked $209 for the passive part.

It will be one tall card but it won't need a fan and that is the price you have to pay. The cards are expected in Q1 2006.

looks like the AC grill has been fitted onto the card

dont like the cooler.. fans are much better.. and the card looks good too....

andi think you mean Q1 2007 :P, heh heh and yea it does look like an ac grill will need a nice big cabby if those flap out

^^Theres a difference between having a fan and not having one (in terms of noise of course).

One thing i think they should have done is built it such that the heatsink was on the other side n routed the heatpipes there. The reason being that there will be higher temps for the peripherals in the other slots and also theres no airflow. When its on the other side of the card, the airflow around the cpu would help cool it better and the hot air would exit the case through the exhaust
