Most people have been having bad experiences getting an RMA done, and when I went to give my XFX 5670 for repair/replacement I was uneasy about approaching Rashi directly. Since the past few months I'd been getting a few artifacts while gaming, and knew I had to give it for RMA. But I didn't want to do it in Pune as I'd misplaced my bill.
I went to the dealer from where I bought it, SAMVIK Marketing, and he told me it may take as long as 3 weeks to get a replacement. I asked if it would help if I went personally. Niranjan (the salesperson) said he'd try to help me out. He called someone at Rashi, and asked me to go there to meet him. He told me not to wait in the line for RMA. While I was leaving, the tech-support guy from the shop told me that he'd come along with me.
I went to Rashi, and there were about 10 people in queue waiting to give their stuff for RMA and the line was moving at the rate of a person every 10 mins.
The tech-support guy took my card in with him, and about 25 mins later came and presented me with my options. I could wait for a replacement which the Rashi guy would try and process by evening, or I could pay Rs.2000 extra and take a brand new XFX 5750 with 3 yrs warranty right then and there.:hap2:
I decided not to wait and took the 5750. I wasn't carrying any cash on me, so we took the card and left .I paid the tech support guy at the nearest ATM, and went home.
I haven't tested the new card yet as I'm in Bombay at the moment, and none of my home computers have decent psu's. But even if there's something wrong with the card I don't think I need to worry. It's got a Rashi sticker with todays date on it, and an invoice with a years warranty mentioned on it.
The chap who replaced the card looked at the warranty for my 5670 on his system, and told me it was for 2 years, and I had about a year of warranty left. He also reassured me that the 5750 had a 3yr warranty and not 1 year. Even though the replacement invoice mentioned 365 in the warranty column he said his computer showed it as 3 years.
The packaging for the card was open, and the CD and the molex to 6 pin power connector weren't in it, butthat doesn't really matter to me. The card looks brand new, and the plastic sticker on the fan shroud is still in place.
I'm sure if I went by myself I'd have been made to wait for a couple of weeks before I got any replacement.
I really appreciate the help I got from Niranjan and the tech-support guy(I'm embarrassed that I can't remember his name) at Samvik. I've been buying from them for more than a decade now, so maybe they don't give this kind of support to everyone. But considering that I haven't bought anything from them in a year, I feel that they really went overboard for me.
I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone at Samvik on Lamington road.
Also, that I'm dying to try out my new card, and it sucks that I've got to wait a week before I can!!
